Default [WIP] SHIII Merchants for SHIV

I'm almost done transferring a group of merchants from SHIII to SHIV. I just need someone to test them, and possibly add SHIV-compatible weaponry.

The ship files are all assembled in their correct folders - all one would have to do is to copy the files into the correct folders. I would prefer if the tester is one who is more familiar with modding, so they will not cause any damage to their own installations trying this. Nothing will be replaced though.

This is the list of ships in the pack:

Pyro Ammunition Freighter (AG124)
Chatham/Small Troop Transport (AG124)
Coastal Tanker (AG124)
Converted Whale Factory (AG124)
Empire Celt/Celt Tanker (AG124)
Small Coastal Vessel/Coastal Trader (Stock, multi-skin by UBOAT234)
C3 Cargo (Stock, multi-skin by Sergbuto)
C2 Cargo (Stock)
Caribou/Small Passenger/Cargo (AG124)
Coastal Merchant/Freighter (Stock)
Small Merchant (Stock)
T2 Tanker (Stock)
Small/Patapsco Tanker (Stock)

All of my ships were UV Mapped by Ref for GWX, were given new deck textures by Boris, and have GWX damage models by Von Helsching.

I'll provide names for the English.cfg file.

OK then. :hmm: I'll upload a BETA version in about half an hour.

Just want to make sure that you read this:

matzeesn is absolutly correct, JUST COPY THE GUNS.DAT ; GUNS.SIM and GUNS.ZON from SH3 "Library" folder to SH4 Library.. And the guns/turrets of SH3 are working in SH4 !!

I tested it with the Bismark, works perfectly...

So just use the SH3 .eqp files....

Default Guns.dat

OK, thanks Warhunter. I'll include the SHIII guns files with the package, and restore the .eqp files for the stock ships.

I'll be back shortly to make the release. Meanwhile, if anyone is talking to Sergbuto, ask him if he would like the NKGN and NPTR in this release as well.

Default PM'd Sergbuto

Just sent a PM to Sergbuto. I will wait for awhile, and upon his response I will either release the package as-is, or add whichever merchant ships (out of his 4) he will allow me to add.

Also, I imagine Iambecomelife will want to do his own, so I won't ask about the Empire Class Freighter right now.

Default More SHIII Ships

I've decided to include the large, modern looking passenger liner for good measure. The more ships, the better right? If someone thinks she is too modern looking, they can delete her.

If the gun files work, then maybe I should throw in a few stock warships. I will put in the Illustrious class CV - plus the J class and C&D class, mostly as stand-ins. But should I add any of the following ships? (I am a little rusty on my British-warships-in-the-Pacific-and-Indian-Ocean knowledge).

(Also, I will put in the Merchant Cruiser for Australia).

Revenge class BB.
Fiji class CL.
Isles class Armed Trawler.
Black Swan class sloop.
Flower class corvette.
Any Hunt variants.
V&W class DD.

Also, I've outfitted the Illustrious with US aircraft, since there are no UK aircraft in the game yet.

EDIT - BETA Version Uploaded,

EDIT - BETA Version Uploaded,

I think it's appropriate to include the modern-looking liner. The Japanese built a large number of beautifully-streamlined ships prior to the war that would not have looked out of place in the 1950's or early 60's. However, it would be nice if someone could widen the funnels and get rid of that weird tapered shape - it was not a very common feature.

Default Advice and Hex Editing

@ Iambecomelife - Thanks for the advice. I had some pictures of Japansese liners on my HDD, but the thought to put the SHIII one in the Japanese roster never crossed my mind. I will now though - maybe I'll change the funnels first.

That much I know so far.
Animated crew need to be added through addition of nodes.
P01 and on.
Some addition to the config files also:

CrewComplement=80
SurvivalRate=70
SurvivalPercentage=20

And some ships require more with this.

The multi-skin problem appears to be the 10/-1 and 6/0 chunks.
They need to be changed to the SH4 10/-1 and 6/0 chunks for render.

...

There are 2 additional objects for 3d damage.
Easy enuff to add this feature to existing ships by
copying the f and b sections, reproduce damage like an existing
SH4 damage model, then add the objects with hex editor.
Would you (or anyone else reading this) be able to do this, as part of a joint release? I am no good at hex editing.

@AG124,
I'm working on converting a Multi-skinned ship
by 10/-1 and 6/0 replacement.
Lots of instances to convert!

Any ship that uses stock SH3 guns will be ok if guns.dat and support files are
moved to SH4.

Adding crew still requires addition of P nodes then adding to eqp file.

Create a couple of damage models for a ship and post a D/L link.
I'll insert them and we'll see what happens!

May need to tweak sim files? I haven't looked at this yet. :hmm:

Great!

With the merchant fleet already being pretty good in SHIII, I think this'll only be a better bonus.

By the way, SHIV is the first time in a subsim that I've extensively mis-identified my targets because of the sheer variety of them, and where the flipping of the rec manual was quite a procedure in itself. This will only increase that, I think :p

Just so you know, the above types were specific US types. The Japanese had nothing that looked like those ships.

Default Problems

Yes, I know. The Pyro has only been assigned to the US, and the C2 and C3 have been assigned only to the US and UK (I believe the UK operated a few of each type). However, I don't know if I'm going to proceed with the release, as it's possible Ubisoft would be upset and I don't know about getting someone to fix the damage models.

@ Privateer - I don't know how to make new damage models, especially not for SHIV (as I can't actually run the game). I believe that requires good hex-editing skills too, anyway. Sergbuto has often remarked on the difficulties of this aspect of ship construction.

I'll be releaseing 2 Conversions to SH4 shortly.
River Class which uses SH4 guns and DCRacks
and has a few crewmen standing about.
And the Maxim Gorki by Liliput which I checked
out in SH4, packaged up mostly by BBW of course.
All I did on this was double check and repackaged.

River will get damage objects next to see what we need to do to
bring this on-line for conversions.

Still working on the 10/-1 and 6/0 conversion.
