Default Adversarial ladder idea - King of the Hill

Something I thought the adversarial mode would be perfect for - a "King of the Hill" ladder.

Since we can have only 1 escort commander vs. 4 subs... it would be perfect to have a match where the aim would be to hold on to the escort commander role for as long as possible!

If the subs win a game, the top-scoring attacker would take over the escort. If the escort commander wins, he stays king and has to defend or forefeit his spot in the next match. Whoever hangs on and plays escort command for the most games wins the ladder.

Anyone would be free to join and scores would be confirmed by all participants. Games would be played on 100% realism. I'd volunteer to keep track of results here on subsim (not until april, but no rush!), and maybe we could even get some prizes involved. I think this could really make for some really challenging games, though it'd be nice to wait and get a feel for the adversarial mode first...

What do you say? :hmm:

Sound good, Sir!
I gotta admit, the new video-interview got my imagination going as well...I was thinking of some kind of "challenge-board", here on Subsim.
But I agree...we should wait and see, how things turn out after release.

A couple of comments and questions:

- it's Server vs. a max of 3 players (= 4 players total)

- don't push 100% realism just yet...it looks easier than in SH3, but again, wait and see. Outside-views might turn out to be a must, for example (to keep track of scoring and progress, and for the Server, to keep an oversight on the entire convoy).

- can the convoy-commander shoot any survivors? I read somewhere, that the Japanese had some code, to execute enemy-survivors on sight.

- what kind of missions will be used? Quick-missions, special custom missions, semi-scripted missions?

- will the mp-lobby finally have a chat-room? Would be extremely helpfull for this kind of meetings. Or - if no chat-room is available - have a dedicated TS-server.

I agree, lots of questions still left!

I think this is something that will all be answered once we have our hands on the game. I'm just going on what we've heard/seen for now.

The reason I actually suggested 100% realism is that I'm not sure how the spotting will work; it may just give one or the other side an unfair advantage. You have to agree that with unrestricted viewing for the escort commander, finding subs will be too easy; with unrestricting viewing for the subs, periscope observations suddenly don't become as important. I think it might compromise some of the stealth - and then remember the fact that we ARE promised a replay feature in SHIV, so any results can easily be checked that way.

I wonder how close we can get to some sort of online-campaign?
Maybe even with automated mission-creation, based on results of previous missions, and with a dynamic "frontline".
I hope it's possible for SH4, but it depends on whether programmers will be willing (and able) to create the scripting-tools, for the mission-creation.
I've been in a few online-wars for Il2, and automated mission-generation is the way to go.

Btw, indeed it will be to easy for the convoy-commander, to spot subs...due to the new water-transparancy, right?
