That's some harsh attitudes back then.

He was in the marines and had passed his markmanship on his weapon. He sure wasn't going deer hunting in the west pacific. In times of war they dehumanize the enemy.

Harsh perhaps when taken out of context. Though keep in mind we're no longer at war with the Japanese.

When the term gets flung around yet again, I though it might be prudent to remind some people.

This smiley":rotfl:" indicated that I was making fun of that dreadful discussion. But I admit that it is hard to know if somebody's making fun if you don't see and hear him.

The difference between '45 and Now:p:

1945- We called the enemy things like "Krauts" and "Japs" because we didn't like them.
Now- We call the enemy things like "opposing forces" and "aggressors" so we won't offend them

LOL that's awesome. I see good/awesome humor goes waaay back in history and tradition. I myself got a similar certificate from the service, but in an entirely different context.

Oh thats a load of garbage. Opposing forces or aggressors is used often in terms of an excercise - where somebody plays the badguy so the people in training.. you know.. have some training. Last i was in, colorful language iwas very much the norm, and deragtory terms were in no short supply
