Default Whale factory ship?

A stupid question: why do i see so many whale factory ships in the middle of large convoys of petrol,weapons,trucks,airplanes ecc ecc.... Is the whale a so esteemed food in all the world?? I thought only japanese still eat these poor whales

At that time Iceland and Norway had also large whale factory fleets, Russia probably also and may be some other countries I am not aware of and these ships where converted for supply duties probably.
Think I heard recently on the news that Iceland was going whale hunting again...

They are Ex-Whale factory ships that are being used to transport vital war goods and food.

THe japs only eat fish, rice, sake, maybe some real meat like chicken, beef, but not whales.I dont know what IM talkin about.

If you sink a whale factory ship and send a status report it is shown as a tanker. Perhaps they were refited to carry oil or gasoline?:hmm:

Doesn't bother me Id say the more the merrier 13000 tons for a whaler and there fairly easy to sink.

Much of a whale factory's space was devoted to storing whale oil. Refitting them to carry petroleum products was a simple thing.
