Default Radio Messages

I've only played SH3 a couple of months now. Why can I receive, but not send, radio messages while submerged? Something does not seem to compute there. (Of course I'm using GWX, what else did you expect?)

The received messages are written into the game and released at pre-determined times (whether submerged or surfaced)...however,the same cannot be said about transmitting which is just as well in my opinion because that would be even more unrealistic

Ok, sounds like what you are saying is that the received messages while submerged are quite unrealistic, which is what I thought. Simple enough to stop the messages though, I just send the radio operator to quarters while submerged. This raises another question. Why doesn't the sonar work while surfaced?

Actually because of the antenna design WWII submarines could recieve messages down to about 25 meters, which is modelled in the game. On the other hand, unless they were expecting something like that they would not have the radio manned while submerged.

As for the hydrophones, no surfaced ship could detect another ship on the surface under normal circumstances, nor would a submarine usually have the hydrophones manned while surfaced. The signal would be interupted first by the noise of the hull moving through the air/water interface, and second by the action of the waves.

Okay! Thank you for clearing that up!
