Default Renown

I have played SH4 for many years and I would like to start using FOTRS 80.. How do I change the renown setting??Also the flag should be flying from the rear of the conning tower not on the stern..How can I change that??

In FOTRSU the flag stands on the stern, in Ralles real mod soup it’s on the conning tower...and I think both are right as i recall seeing pictures of both.
It might be up to the captain to choose the flag mast

i agree with you on the flag placement. the only time the US flag is flown on the stern is during peacetime and in port.
during the war it was flown on the aft part of the bridge. it was hung on a short piece of wood, much like our house flags are today. the reason was so the flag could be pulled in very quickly when the boat had to submerge.
my good buddy, propbeanie, is leading the charge on FOTRS-U and i know there is another release on the horizon but i do not know if flag placement is included in the next release.

when you say "renown setting" do you mean your total renown or the renown available to you at the start of a career?

that value is stored in CareerStart.upc.
do you know how to use Notepad to edit certain file types?
if not, send me a PM and i will walk you through it.

on the flag issue, changing that is a bit more complex as it is a piece of "equipment". manipulating equipment is beyond my skill set at the present time. you could probably get rid of it by erasing its placement in the sub.EQP file but relocating it to its proper place on the bridge will take more skill than i have.

The flag involves the sub's dat files, which we haven't noodled with yet. As for renown, you're supposed to earn it. Like a job, you do well, they pay you money. Every enemy ship you sink earns you renown. Every completed mission objective earns you renown. If you are given a "Sink" mission, where you are instructed to "proceed immediately to the designated area and standby for further instructions", that is usually worth 100 points upon completion. You then would usually be instructed to sink tonnage, which you can do anywhere you can drive you boat to, and that objective, being comleted would be worth another 100-350 points each, plus whatever the ships themselves are worth, like 200-1200 more renown. In FotRSU, it's low initially for the mere fact that there's nothing to upgrade to initially...
