Default PC gaming question

Hey guys I don’t know who to ask so I will ask my community about my pc.

Ghost recon breakpoint is coming out in October.

The specs are covered by my PC but the processor they recommend is Ryzen 7. I currently have AMD FX-6300. Is that significant?

I have a great graphics card, vram, PSU.

Your thoughts?

I would go with what you have and see if it works. Right now NewEgg has the Ryzen 7 1700x for $189. Or $495. Or anywhere in between. The problem is that the FX-6300 uses the AM3 socket whereas all the Ryzen series use the AM4 socket, which means buying a new motherboard as well.

The system you have is free, because you already own it. That said, the system requirement I saw is the FX-8120 vs your FX-6300.

On the other hand if you do choose to upgrade you have five months to get ready.

Beyond all that, I don't know much more about it. I myself have a Ryzen 5 2600, which is more than enough for my meager needs.

I appreciate it, I guess I’ll just standby until it’s time to think about it. I do have the new resident evil two, and I do use Arkham night. Both very high end games graphic wise. And it works fine it appears. So I think I should be OK.

Cool. I'm set up for the foreseeable future, as I'm not really a gamer in the full sense, but only play historical games, and then a very limited scope (Wings, Silent Hunter, and some modern flight sims).

according to Tom's Hardware CPU hierarchy guide which I use as a reference, the FX-6300 is 3 levels down from the Ryzen 7 which means it is time for an upgrade.

https://www.tomshardware.com/reviews...rchy,4312.html

I have a 4 year old i5-4670k which is still listed on the top tier, even though it is getting a bit long in the tooth.

but as Sailor Steve said, try it first. I only upgrade when I can no longer run the games I like at an acceptable level.

Appreciate that. I’m not in a position to upgrade yet.

I have Ghost recon wildlands and that plays pretty darn good so hopefully I can squeeze Breakpoint in no problem.

My 2 cents.
I went through that recently, although for a different kind of games ( I'm into Train Simulator, even considering TSW).
If and when you upgrade, go for the recommended specs or above. If you go for the minimum, you'll end up shelling money out twice.
There are a few websites that will even run a small app in your machine and tell you exactly where you are in relation to the game of your choice.
On the web search engine of your choice type "can I run (game name here) on my computer".

WIN 10 - If you are running Win 10, make sure you have your license ready on the side, and activated for your Microsoft account, *before* you upgrade the hardware.

Unlike all the previous versions, Win 10 will be "locked" to your PC, through the MB.
I was unaware of this, changed the MB with the new CPU, and on the first boot got a warning on the lower right corner telling me my copy of Win 10 was not activated. I sorted it out eventually, but it is far easier to prepare rather than sort this one out afterward.

So if I buy a new processor, and a new motherboard, I’m assuming I will have to upgrade everything or at least reinstall everything? Will I lose my silent hunter Hunter five game, will I lose everything else in between? I assume that it’s like having a brand new computer?

I’m hoping just simply switching over my hard drive to the new motherboard should keep everything I have correct?

We have a PC hardware/software forum. Might be a good idea to post your question there also. Not everyone haunts the GT forum.
