Hehe, could be the ark....

I do think I can sort of reverse what I did here and get swells instead of waves, but without a weather pattern connected to storms only I don't see they hold much value, too rough of a ride, possible sensor issues, etc.., but I'll try swells and tone them down and see....

Always hated large waves with blue skies.......

To everyone: There is really no need to repost every picture just so you can make one comment, especially when yours is the very next post. It ties up bandwidth, costs Neal extra money and plays havock with slow internet connections. Please do not quote pictures unless there is a driving reason.

Somebody's been playing with the first two lines of the sim.cfg file.

No, hadn't touched the sim file yet, but may use it for some tweaking, I could never adjust the sim file to get good waves, maybe you can tell me how. Course, these are more tuned, trying to get swells, but somewhat realistic...Course a host of other issues would be involved to mod it and if and unless a wave file can connect to a storm weather pattern, who wants to see typhoon waves under clear blue skies.

I used to have the URL for a java applet that demonstrated wave attuenation and amplitutde very well. It allowed you to input values and watch the resulting wave, but i can no longer find it. This is the best i can find at the moment.

http://zonalandeducation.com/mstm/ph.../waveParts.htm

Naturally, you can't rely on just the sim.cfg file. Getting it right is a combination of the scene.dat file and small incremental values in the sim.cfg file.

Which is precisely why I left it alone. A lot could be solved by getting the right combination of wave attuneation and amplutude along with the scene.dat settings, but it opens a huge can of worms. So much so, I've never really thought the benefit was worth the cost in man hours to solve all the associated issues.

The big issue for me is....who want's typhoon waves under blue skies. It's ashame we can't connect wind/waves to storms, so you only see larger waves in storms. Be nice if we could add more wave patterns, but again unless they're somehow connected to storms...mute issue.

Also seems the game is coded to 15mps winds. I thought about dumping the 0 wind wave prop and just start with 5kt's , what ocean has 0 winds.., and work up, but it appears the game defaults back even if you set winds to 20 or more, not that it effects your waves per say.

Gonna tweak these down a tad and see if I can spread more distance between the swells. I guess I could tone them way down and just have a small swell mod, but would I like to see some large swells in a storm...ONLY

The last ones using the S boat slowed it down about 5kts, not too rough of a ride and sub doesn't go into submerge mode no more than before. Maybe a tad sim adjustment would help, but you can't really go far there.

Possible sensor issue on the visual end, guess waves should cut them down some, haven't looked at radar issues yet or how height would effect it.

Please someone figure how to connect higher wind patterns to storms only.

Been working on my env mod for a long time now, it wears me down with all the testing, shelf it, then back at it later.

One that has land on three sides. I've seen (at least I think I have seen) 0 winds on a cruise ship moving into Ensenada. it's REALLY weird looking. But I have to say, with two weeks at sea, at no other time did i see winds this low.

Wish we could get that orange peel effect, as those are the little ripples from surface breezes that look real cool when the sun reflects off them.

You talking about a lil foam cap on the wave top? Explain, I'll see what I can do....I know WClear worked on it and had some great SS, but never finished it....

Course you may be talking about small wind patterns, sure you've tried RE, seems it had some high reflection and more or an orange peel to small winds.

No not foam, but more like Duci's top picture. Those little ripples created by surface winds that will kick up on a calm day, when there is little to no wind at all. It makes those tiny little ripples that, at the proper sun angle make silvery little flashes on the surface, that look cool, but if you look at them too long without sunglasses, will give you a terrible headache.
