The late Peter Finch good role Hans Langsdorff for him, I really liked him in his last film NETWORK.."I'm mad as hell and I'm not going to take it anymore".

I watched that for the umteenth time a couple of months back...a great movie.

Recently came across a spoiler site for the film and was deeply embarrassed at what I missed/overlooked.

One example: The Graf Spee is represented by USS Salem which has three triple gun turrets - yet in the Captain's cabin is a photograph of the real Graf Spee which had just two turrets. Likewise, HMS Ajax is represented by a Sheffield class cruiser with four triple gun turrets - yet in the fire control area there are just eight lights to indicate guns ready to fire.

No, not good observation, I read the details on a spoiler site which made for my embarrassment.

Their justification was the fact that for part of her journey Graf Spee was disguised with a false second turret, which I believe was mentioned in the movie. On the other hand the false turret was butted right up against the superstructure, couldn't turn, and only had two barrels.

On the other hand HMNZS Achilles and HMS Cumberland were played by themselves.

My personal favorite part of the movie is the flurry of messages at the end which convince Langsdorff he doesn't have a chance and must scuttle his ship. I thought that part was portrayed brilliantly.

I have a copy of the book Battle of the River Plate by Dudley Pope, and as good as the film is the book is even better.

Here's another....Some of the gun crews (usually skulking behind the guns) on the "Graf Spee" are wearing their American helmets. (U.S. Navy refused permission for German helmets to be worn).

It'd be cool to pit the Salem against the Graf Spee.
8inch rapid fire guns with radar range finding.

Yeah, heavily outranged and outgunned by 11" shells

Yeah...but when it comes to that...nobody says you have to listen...you just have to "listen"

Here is the trick that no one your age will tell you: everyone feels socially awkward at that age (high school) they just do not want to admit it for fear of losing any social status they may have.
People have told me that for years. I don't care. If people feel the need to be "cool" and go drink, smoke, do drugs and party and things of the sort...so be it.

I can be social with my little group of friends and leave you out of it.

I can't stand social climbers either...but that's all I'm going to say about that.

In Carrie's situation....she's got no friends, a mental mother, completely sheltered from the real world...She can't help it. I think what gets me in the movie is the fact that I know both sides of the story very well. There's something everybody can relate to in the plot.

The remake doesn't have the ratings that the old one did so I'll have to watch the old one and read the book. I've been meaning to get into reading Stephen King for a year or two now. Just never got around to it.

The only King I've ever been able to get all the way through was The Dead Zone. I had to compare the movie and the series, so I picked it up at the library when I was homeless.

Oops. I also read The Green Mile. Excellent story, and the movie was quite faithful.

There's a girl in my class who is obsessed with that movie. I may or may not watch it....I'd much rather just read the books.

I've only ever read The Shining....Doctor Sleep is sitting on my shelf but I probably won't get to read it until the summer.

And Now For Something...Completely Different

Love it. Especially the "Upper Class Twit of the Year" sketch.

These guys are brilliant.

True, but it's a bolt action vs an automatic.
