Default Operation Weserübung - Failed

I had been on patrol after just completing British Supplies mission, i needed to reload on torpedoes & fuel so went to Heligoland. After my refit i went to plot a new destination when i noticed Operation Weserübung was now on the map, i looked at the date & it was 6:30am March 1st so i went straight back to Wilhemshaven to end my patrol.

I accepted the mission and was given a patrol marker to go to. When i started the mission 2 weeks had passed in dock even though my sub didn't need repairs, i now only had 3 weeks to complete the mission.

I patrolled my assigned area only finding an enemy sub on surface to sink which the game doesn't count, was given new area to patrol where i sunk 1 freighter & was then given a 3rd patrol area to go to. So i followed my orders and patrolled new area finding nothing. I now had only 8 days to complete the mission when a window popped up from Bdu saying " Cease all operations, return to base".

Believing i had done something wrong i returned to base where i was given a mission to recon Bergen Harbour. I start my patrol with the date now April 13th, 4 days after the mission end date. So with the date as it is Bergen was full of German ships & Operation Weserübung had come and gone with only 1 ship to sink i slowly dejectedly return back to base. All i have to do now is wait until June for Happy Times.

So is this mission scripted or just random? I have seen online videos of people completing this mission.

I have a couple of save games i can reload, 1- Feb 28th before mission start date & 2 - March 13th after i accept the mission on my way to first patrol area. But unsure of how the mission will progress.

Hi df
You do not need to request the mission
Clicking on Operation Weserübung on the Navigation Map will take you to a map position and give you information.
You will also receive orders by radio.

I reloaded my save from before mission start date & went straight to Norway after a refit. Was sent to recon Trondheim harbour after a couple of days, towards the end of March a QE Battleship sailed up to Narvik which i manage sink along with 2 of her escorts allowing me to complete the mission.

So its now Happy Times for me and my next campaign.

Default Very confused.

I have been searching but I'm very confused on how exactly these missions are tracked. It's March 26, 1940 and I refit/rushed to Norway as requested via radio message. I'm sitting here in position to intercept ships but all I see is Norway flags in 3 days. I came from the southwest approach mission which I had requested in the sub pen. I see people stating you don't need to request this mission but I still have southwest approaches objectives in the captains log, and it seems I'm doing something wrong.

Hi reedca82
You are not doing anything wrong you just need to be aware of how the game works.
Missions will appear and disappear regardless of whether they are requested or not because they are determined by their start and finish dates.
With OW IIRC the first enemy task force appears on March 31st close to the arrow point.
Clicking on the red tick will give you more information.

Thanks for the reply. I am just worried that I am missing out on promotion points and stuff since I don't have specific objectives. The Queen Elizabeth has suddenly showed up in the area so I'm currently trying to get ahead of the group.

Hi reedca82
Sinking capital ships will give you greater more points and raise morale.

Quick question. Finished recon mission, objective was achieved. Sank 10 ships including two troop transports. It is now april 4 05.39 naut and no task force in sight. Zigzagging from pos 67,7N 12,54E at 15 kts. Course 27 then 140, 19, 140, 20 and then 80 straight into Narvik Channel.

Can I finish this mission without sinking a battleship in the still elusive task force should I not find them im the coming 5 days?

I do have an earlier savegame so not much is lost. Just curious.

Though the mission will finish midnight 12 the 11th of april is it normal that the weserubung info disappears the 9th of april? It is no longer on my map.
