Default 1-hour torpedo evade

I recently performed a mission in the 1984 (default) campaign near the Barent's Sea, off the coast of Russia. I took out all targets and successfully evaded six enemy torpedoes. However, one enemy torpedo took an hour of evasion before it ran out of "steam" and self detonated. Holy s--t, Submariner, is that called a quirk or a bug? I was certain the most I would have to go was approximately twenty-five minutes -- based on previous game play, and the run time of the game's MK48 ADCAP. But, no, I had to evade for an hour. WTF? Yeah, I know, nobody would believe it unless I had a video to back up my claim. Anyway, good thing for the speed, agility and knuckle abilities of the Seawolf class submarine as the maximum depth was 645-feet with no duct and no layer. An hour!

Just a reminder depth changes are more effective than direction changes when evading torps. If you get the chance, a blind snapshot torp (even if you lose the wire) in the direction the torp came from can force the enemy to break the wire making it easier to get away. If I had to fight a torp for 30 minutes I would lose, let alone an hour.

Must be as he is apparently driving a Seawolf in a 1984 campaign...

I have never had a torpedo chase me for 1 hour. Crazy!

next time I'll time it I also had a torp chasing me for a long long time. it was tiring and i thought he would never run out of fuel. Other torps were fired about the same time and ran out of fuel long before. Also whatever tried I could not shake him off my tail plus he seemed to be really fast.

Yes, I am using one of the additional subs mods. I'm not home so I can't pull it up to say for sure. It's not the Russian subs mod, though.

I changed depth. Trust me when I say I tried probably everything -- including slowing speed enough to launch a MOSS but only once as it very nearly nailed me. I launched noise makers in random patterns at random depths; I performed multiple knuckle maneuvers; I changed my depth -- all in an attempt to get that sucker to lose me in all the noise and distractions. No joy. My only option, as I saw it, as I could not outrun it, was to perform a knuckle maneuver each time it turned back onto me until I could put enough distance such that it lost track of me. That didn't work either as I could never put more than approximately 1,000-yards between the sub and the torpedo.

All enemy ships were dead prior to receiving notification of "torpedo in the water..." No aircraft present either. Just a very persistent lone enemy torpedo. I'm not really complaining. I was just amazed it lasted so long. I nearly quit the game, thinking it was stuck in a loop of sorts. Anyway, it finally detonated and I sailed on. One of those rare moments, though, that I thought to myself, "Wow, had I only recorded that."

Try blowing your ballast and doing a 180 at full speed and diving with a series of turns.

its a true i experienced some challenge in Russian campaign with MK48 ADCAP it took me 10~15 min to evade but i noticed something important a torpedo has a seek range!! and in this case its 400yd!!! so when u turn 180 turn or 360 no matter it require u immediately so u need a tactic i using for this bad boy first u need to confuse it with knuckle or noise maker so it turn 90 degree in this time u must keep going straight with maximum speed 38 knot or more !!! when this bad boy required u u must do the tactic again but u must do it before its requiring why?? because u trying to avade this bad boy torpedo so u must catch more distance so do it perfectly and wisely!!

I spent a good 25 minutes trying to evade an enemy torp in my Los Angeles earlier today. Used 15 noise makers, multiple knuckles, depth change from 600ft to 50ft, but it kept reacquiring me. I shot two MOSS in hopes to distract it. At one point, I zoomed the tac map out and saw that the other two enemy subs had launched 6 torpedos at the MOSS I let loose... The one time I wasn't running OBS while playing a game.......

uhahah nice ur max try was 6 ??? one day i forgot to stop the blance tank and my sub get surfaced in middle of all enemy forces!!!

their helo got me like charm!!! and sent every one of his torpedos on board just for me!!! not just him all of his ally escorts send at least 2 Rocket Torpedo on me!! i saw the tactical map was full yellow colorful!! !!
i told myself i going die man!!! that was best mistake that i could do that time!!! i I was too excited to count the torpedoes but i see at least 8 or 10 torp around me!! first send a noise maker (of course for all of them not working ) then deep dive and full ahead !!! Fortunately, I could run aways some of tops and they destroyed but 25 min or more play cat and mouse with other torps so its was very very danger close!!!!! but i passed successfully!

LOL!!! I haven't had a mistake like that yet. Key word... YET! The worst thing I ever did on a subsim was accidentally hitting "blow ballast" on SH3 while coming up to periscope depth in the middle of a task force. Put myself in a perfect position for the Nelson to open up with it's main guns.
