Ahh the old 'bought a car' chesnut

Clearly you have never owned a Russian Car or Motorbike or you would understand that in the former Soviet Socialist Republic that is what is known as a FEATURE! COMRADE !

Ok I will admit I had my best optomist cap on (rare for me) at the time I wrote that and much of what you said had and has crossed my mind.

What I think many of us who shelled out cash for this, were hoping is that we could keep the developers on board long enough for us to get at least some feed back and information on how the guts were wired so we could perhaps perform the same kind of job that was done with PE back in the day.

but there it is I can't say I am happy about it but I am, for now prepared to try and salvage something from this train wreck because I do feel that the online community is more than keen and deserves to have an online Tank Simulator in the ww2 theatre.

As you can see a less opertunistic group of developers have turned out what looks to be a top class offline tank simulator in steel fury and they have even hinted that at some point it will possibly become an online incarnation also.

But until then T34 versus Tiger is all we have to go on.

Some one with some smarts and the cojone's to deliver could maybe see the opertunity here to tap a market

And two or three WW2 tanks installed into SB PE could have shifted a lot of units but I guess that is not what its about.

If nothing else its been a lesson learned, I thought my days of buying lemon's was well behind me it just goes to show that hope trust and optimisim can be an expensive habit.

we shall see what the future holds.

That is indeed a confirmed info. They are already sitting over putting down the detals for the deal. The addon "Fall Blau" is hoped by them to be released in 1Q2009, which speaks for some detemination for sticking with the franchise.

You could simulate that in SBP. Play with the Leopard-1s, disable laser rnage finder, thermals, and switch turret to "Turm aus", also disable stabilization. Choose old, less capable rounds in the weapons editor. Play not with the GPS, but the GAS.

There are two different Leopard-1, the A5 and the AS (Australian version).

All that can be set in the editor, also for T-72 and all other tank, but their armour values probbaly are beyond good and evil, for WWII standards, so stay with the Leo-1, which probbaly is the closest.

Yes I saw you suggested that somewhere else and I think that whilst that may be an interesting excercise I think a lot of the folks would like to actually feel like they are sat inside a ww2 tank and not a hobbled leo.

Suspension of belief is one thing but I think the visual aspect is as much what people want as the technical difficulties of low tech armour combat.

still SB PE still is by the look of things a top class armour sim and who knows once steel fury is more widespread SB may reap the benefit of a bigger community and boosted interest in armoured combat.

who knows if we can overcome some of the (large hurdles) in TvT we may even see the arrival of some more modern content.

Hope springs eternal just not from G5 right now and depending on how much they medicate me from day to day

I'm still patroling the lighthouse forums, and found this posting, dating to 29th Novembre:

Quote:
I take it you guys are not aware that the original development company dropped this game after the Russian release?

A dev who had worked on the project continues to work on it part time, so don’t expect any earth shattering bug fixes with oodles of new content to magically appear after a week or two. If I can find the links I will post them here (assuming it won’t be deleted straight away), there were several posts from the guy explaining the situation on a Russian tanksim board, I happened to stumble across them while searching for info on this game and steel fury. I cannot vouch for this guys post’s one way or the other, but I must say he certainly knew what he was talking about when referring to several headaches he has encountered within the code and his knowledge of coding in general. He sounded genuine enough for me to believe what was said, especially given the current state of the game compared with the original Russian release and his explanation of the situation.

If that is true then it is an explanation why Neal does not get any answers on the game from Lighthouse, and best bet is that the game is as dead as dead can be and will see no official support or patches.

According to the armour scripts, the effects of sloped armour are not modelled correctly.

With a system that requires a minimal processing level, and limited fidelity (eg a miniatures wargame or boardgame) it is common to assign an 'effective armour' thickness to each aspect of the vehicle. This is the choice of the designers of TvT

With a slight increase in complexity (but still trivial) you can model a plate thickness and slope. This allows variations in performance of the armour with changes in slope to be based on the real armour thicknesses and slope (ie T34 frontal armour is at least 45mm thick, but can be effectively 90mm against a frontal attack or much more if on a reverse slope and hit obliquely).

While you can increase armour effectiveness by factoring in slope even with the 'simple' method, the resulting thicknesses will have a minimum value of 90mm.

Default Problems agogo:(

Well I got the game today been waiting a bit to get but went ahead and got. So I'm not to happy with it myself, been searching for info on hot fixes. I don't think mine version is an english ver.??? Its all in russain. Most of the key binds don't work properly, I cant turn my turret l or r. Sometimes the engine will start and sometimes it wont start and when it shuts down it wont start.

Different views are not working when I do shift f6 for example it loads the view that f6 provides, so you see these r but a few of the things thats going on with it

Any suggestions will be appreciated

to move the turret you have to be in a proper view i.e commander or gunner(or sth like this), try selecting different stations, then press Insert, Home and Page Up-this may help. To start the engine you need to be on neutral and "without a handbrake"-Space button. Generally I can stay it is a crap worth(read- unworth)40 eu and we will w8 for patches till they go bankrupt.

I guess that I took for granted that folks would know that If I sd it wont work that it wouldn't sry about. I have tried all views I cant even bring up what I like to see is shift+f6. The only thing that works on the tnk is f1,2,3,4,5,6, and E G H f key for auto driver does not work. trying to move the tnk after e and then accelerating engine to 2200 rpm pressing W or S or a or s nothing happens so my game is bascially dead.

I got the game a few days ago and I'm lovin the crap out of it.
I have always wanted to Drive/shoot out of/command a tiger (T34 not so much) and when i got the cash, I went for it.
Ive been messing around on the second mission, and I realise that I can eyeball renges pretty good (my initial estimates are 150-200 meters off, and somehow, my brain knows and compensates anyways.) I had fun bombardin the town of T-34s (the whole time, my comrades being blown up around me)

I like this game much and wish my interweb connection was better so I can play with you guys!

Default T 34 vs Tiger

Hi everyone , i downloaded both versions ( russian & english ) and i just love the game but there is a "detail " that drives me crazy
We all know what capability had the Tigers KWK 88 mm main cannon and what devastating effect it had on the armor of the T-34 so knowing all this you surely noticed that sometimes you need to fire more than three shells in order to destroy the T-34 which is totally impossible and not to mention when a T-34 hits a Tiger from a really far distance but then lets not forget that the game itself was designed by russians so i guess they don't like to see their T-34's knocked out by Tigers as they were in real combat and lets never forget even for a moment that Tigers were deafeted only by the quantity and never the quality of the T-34

Maybe so but a clear hit should knock out a T-34 anytime and as i said, sometimes i need three of those, just cannot be, its not the uberwaffe syndrom my friend, its the russians who made their T-34 just a bit more tough as it really was i this game
