Default Reading the contact report?

So... I'm having a hard time understanding the contact reports from my screen. I'm talking about the info I get from BdU about Task Forces, Convoys and such. I have looked around the forum but I can't seem to find anything explaining how to read the report only about sending your own

My problem is that I'm trying to get my head into the map itself. I don't have any previous experience with navigating.

The horizontal on the map is marked with a number and "E or W" and the vertical an "N".

So yeah, where do I look for the contact? I get some confusing information for a new guy like me. Please break it down for me.

"Contact Reported. Enemy Task Force, Long 11° 47'E, Lat 35° N, Course S, Speed 15 KTS!"

Hope there is a few helping minds out there, Thanks.

The contact will be East of the 11 degree line, almost to the 12 degree line, and on the 35 degree North line, which, if I remember right, would put them in the Mediterranean.

Default map reading

its a little easier to understand if you see the map as a globe as in this video

Not with the optional Real Navigation on board since it would brake the whole point of it...

Without Real Nav, yes...

Here is an old thread regarding radio contact reports that may help. Also there is a link below for the plotting tools I use for plotting contact reports that can be put in the C:\Ubisoft\Silent Hunter 5\MODS folder and enabled using JSGME and then found ingame in the User Charts, Real Navigation.

Once you have a radio contact of interest, I use 1 degree plotting tool to plot the position of the convoy accurately and the Cardinal Directions chart to plot the exact heading and then the speed charts in the user charts to update the progress to calculate an intercept position. Depending on the convoy routes, most times the convoy appears exactly where it's supposed to be and sometimes not if they have changed course to their destination during the intercept. I have found that using the radio contact reports and predicting their positions is far more effective locating convoys than just doing automated search patterns in the patrol area. It's very satisfying doing an intercept that has you running 30 hours at flank speed and the convoy appears exactly where you predicted it to be.
