How do I negotiate the anti-tank ditch in the driving tutorial?

I know it's possible because I did it on my first run through, but I didn't have time to finish off the mission and had to start over.

Ah, try to reach that thing at maximum speed and let the momentum, the swing of the motion, carry you over the wall on the other side.

When testing the game, it did not work for me that way, however, and I skipped the lesson. But some people said it worked for them.
