Default SH4 Where to patrol ?

If you say successfully complete a task area, you then may be asked to patrol at your discretion.
So where to patrol? areas where you say constant sightings, along the Japanese mainland, or strictly go by historical areas where large battles take place?

Can always patrol around the area you are already at... or hit F8, hit the envelope & get new orders that could well tell you to sail to another place or get a objective that is still in the general area you are...

Or, depending on your ammo/fuel/boat health stats, may decide to head back to base...

is all up to you.

Hope this info helps...

you don't really want to "go by historical areas where large battles take place".
you want to patrol in the shipping lanes, where the merchies and convoys come and go.

depending on the mod, the shipping lanes are displayed in the radio icon or elsewhere.
you will have to read the mod documentation to know for sure.
but, that is where you want to hang out after you complete your Primary Objective.
good luck.

Depends? Are you running stock? TMO ? FOTRS RFB? Custom? A lot of variables.

Running The Berbsters all in one, but I haven't actually seen where the shipping lanes are. I just patrol certain areas where I see the red arrow convoys and try and search around those.
Actually its pretty stock as I am only using the extra bases option.
I had just received a message about a great gathering of Japanese shipping in the Coral Sea area, yet when I traveled all the way there I found nothing at all.

lol. Berbster's All-in-One has like 20 mods in it. can you post your mod list using JSGME? (Tasks-Export-To Clipboard)
more than likely you will be able to use this to estimate where the convoy traffic is. please keep in mind that as the war proceeds, the IJN and it convoys are restricted further and further west until most of the traffic is using the South and East China Seas almost exclusively.

BTW I'm using the SH4 Gold DVD.
JSGME output:
Generic Mod Enabler - v2.6.0.157
[C:\Ubisoft\MODS]

7 Extra Allied naval bases for Stock SH4 + UBM v3.0
So how do I get those Convoy routes If I wanted to see them too ?

Some of the mods have add-in maps found throughout the submarine. I thought I had a copy of the one from TMO and FotRSU, but I cannot find it, and cannot remember its name to search on it... but there are a lot of variants of this:

The pic that KaleunMarco has above is the SH4MissionEditor with a Convoys layer from the game loaded.

Woah!!! that pic is BIG!!!

yeah, i forgot that Stock and Berbster do not arm the radio/phonograph with the convoy map so i was scrambling to find "something" and that was what i found.

Something went drastically wrong with that patrol. All the enemy shipping just disappeared, and even when I found a ship I didn't get credit for sinking it.
Plus all the convoys(little red ships on the map) disappeared altogether.
Almost like the sim froze.
Have to start a new patrol.
I'll have to print out a copy of that map, thanks for the help.
