Default SH4, crash upon starting mission / sub school

I just installed this game on my Win 7 machine.

I can load the main menu just fine.

As soon as I attempt to load sub school, the loading bar gets to 50% and then crashes out every time.

I tried a quick mission, the bar goes to 100% but then crashes out before it gets into the 3d world.

My system is fine and is a beast gaming rig, there is something wrong with the game or the settings, not my machine.

Any advice? It seems SH4 has a lot of crash problems.

The install is a fresh install in the default directory + latest patch / no mods. Tried it before the 4gb patch but it made no difference, still crashed.

^This is the problem, move SH4 out of the Windows protected files folder, there are enough threads on here to help you with this, search around a bit and you'll find them.

Hi Wildcat
Run your SH4.exe as an administrator.

When you reinstall the game into a directory other than the "x86" directory, MAKE SURE you install the direct x files. For some reason, the game needs the particular files that came with it.

I got it working. I reinstalled into a different directory and applied the patch immediately afterward. I then applied the 4gig patch. Working like a charm now. Looks FANTASTIC.
