Default New B17 Game?

About as far from submarines as you can get short of spaceships, I know. But I was always a big fan of 'B17: The Mighty Eighth', and I've seen a few mentions lately of a game (shown on pre-order at Amazon.co.uk) called 'B17: The Legend Returns'.

For some reason, though, all I can find in relation to this is Amazon and online stores offering it for preorder. There don't seem to be any previews. There're no descriptions and no screenshots. No "I can't wait for this game" or even any "this game's going to be rubbish".

It does seem to be published by GMX Media, which isn't a great sign given the quality of games they usually seem to deal in; but I'm wondering if anyone else knows any more about this? Is it going to be a re-release of 'Mighty Eighth', as the title suggests it might be (although Amazon's price tag of £24.99 suggests otherwise)? Or is it going to be a sub-standard cardboard flight sim that can't hold a candle to Microprose's masterpiece? Or is it going to shoot Microprose down good and proper?

Hello,

I've been following B-17 for quite some time now. If interested in B-17s, check out this site http://www.bombs-away.net/forums/

Now as for what you saw, the term VAROR WARE comes to mind. That ad has been on Amazon for quite some time. I thing 2 years by now.

Shame. It's the first I'd heard of it. Guess I'll save up and buy it when Elite IV comes out, then...

If I recall, the team behind the BoBII (recreating Rowans:BOB, I think) were going to overhaul B17-The Mighty Eighth.

Was told about it some months ago now tho.

Hello Pevs86,

You'er both talking about the same Sim.

Shockwave had a 7 year licence to work on the new B-17 Sim but decided to scrap it for now.

I think they still have a couple years left so who knows. Maybe they may still do it.

There was an announcement last summer that Shockwave has stopped development; I think that's as good an indication as we can have that it's really not gonna happen...

B-17 The Mighty Eighth kicked ass, and I still enjoy it! As I did B-17 2.0. As I did Avalon Hill's B-17 Queen of the Skies - who remembers that one? I'd love for them to redo B-17 TME Again. We'll see.

I still have my copy. I once got to play with 53 other guys in a massive convention bomber box.

I died early. The Focke-Wulfs got me.

There's an entire Site waiting for B-17 TME to return. Some of the members are here too.

I have B-17 2.0 and B-17 Queen of the Skies. I have started but never finished either for some reason. Think I'll load 2.0 again and give it another go.

Yes, I've (mostly lurked) on Bombs-away.net since B-17 TME came out. Some good dudes over there. I was beta testing for Microprose's 1942 Pacific Air War (The "AI patch", if anyone remembers that) and I asked them - hey would you guys ever consider re-doing B-17 2.0 with today's technology? Well, they did with B-17 TME. I like to tell myself that it was all my idea. (I know, and Al Gore invented the internet, right?:hmm: )

I still enjoy TME, even though the graphics are a little dated now, they're still not bad, and they gameplay and immersion rocks.

I finished B-17 2.0 ca. '91 - I can still hear the music - "Dadatadadadadada":rotfl: .... Finished a few tours on "Queen of the Skies" in the '80's. Have yet to complete a tour on TME, but I'm still working on it after what, 6 or 7 years? Says a lot for "replay value".

53 B-17s at once? That must have been cool! Those damn 190's! Did your bomb load detonate? Wing root fail? Bummer...
