Default Contact Evaluation Plot

Have been a keen player of Dangerous Waters for many a year. Something that I have seen mentioned in articles but never read about / had explained properly is the keeping of a Contact Evaluation Plot in the control room to keep tabs on contacts around the submarine. Was wandering whether somebody could shed some light on this?

Many thanks

Isn't that the same as the navigation map?

That's a bit of a hairy question.
In terms of the real world, I'll leave you with this- back in my day there were more than one paper plot. That may have changed in the last 20 years, but probably not. Imagine you're in Control during a tracking exercise. You're far from alone, in fact its pretty much elbow-to-elbow. All of you need access to the raw tracking info without bugging the snot out of the FTOW who is busy stacking dots. Some of you are concentrating on the actual attack, some of you are concentrating on not being detected, some of you are making sure you don't run aground, etc. The paper plots allow everyone to stay on the same page. Sorry, that's about as deep as I can get into it.

In terms of DW, you're right. You don't see all the info that sonar is collecting but you can see enough to plan an attack.
