I've also been through every setting in the nVidia drivers and the only thing that fixes it is increasing antialiasing above 4x, which then gives a flat sun as described in the nVidia graphics tweaks thread. Other people reported the same issue waaaay back in that thread but nobody ever listed a fix so I suspect it's not a specific issue to FOTRSU.

From what I read in that thread nVidia drivers apply a transparency layer to all objects as a feature for image quality, perhaps SH4 doesn't process transparency normally so it allows the glare through solid objects like ship? The consensus is that it doesn't do antialiasing normally (hence issues above 4x) so it could be feasible, but I'm just guessing here.

I did notice in all my testing that when moving about in free camera that any wave action on water 'jiggles' slightly, it stops when you stop moving. Again this wasn't affected by any of my many many settings changes so not sure what's going on there either.
I'm rather sure we already pointed you at Nvidia tweaks to SH3/SH4, but just in case, there it is again. First page / post has a lot of changes for the later drivers, but read through that and the last couple-three pages, and see if you can find something... AA or whatever. Also, don't forget about the Windows settings on the SH4.exe file itself, where you right-click SH4.exe, choose Properties from that menu, then the Compatibility tab, and click in the "Disable display scaling on high DPI settings" (you could the Administrator setting also), Apply, OK, and see what happens

Peabody made a kamikaze test mission years ago. See if you can find his old version, and see which height(s) he used. Or look at some of the AOTD_MadMax files for their kamikaze planes. Also, are you referring to the kamikaze plane, or the Ohka / Betty combo?
Well primarily the kamikaze bomber(zero) . Would like to get the Ohka betty working as well.
I have them a 500 meters, standard.

Wonder which files I was missing. I combed FOTRS files and used what I saw that was related to kamikaze.

Hello RampantParanoia,

I have two old systems that run SH4, both with Nvida GeForce 9500 GT @1GB stock chipsets and windows 10.

Nowhere near the power of yours though, and both systems have no problems at all running / seeing effects / or playing SH4.

My driver versions are 342.01 & in default mode, as they were installed, no changes made, no game boosters either.

Have you over clocked your GPU at all ? If so perhaps this has effected some other settings.

Have you tried to Un-install the GPU drivers, then attempt a re-install via the nvidia website downloads section?

As often in my experience, the microsoft "updated" versions can cause adverse side effects to gaming etc.

I always use the offical drivers from Nvidia, and always decline the "Updated" versions.

Default constant hiss after damage/repair

hello,

running v63.
took some battle damage while submerged...lived...surfaced...and repaired damage.
No hull damage indicated and no remaining equipment damage.
receiving a constant hiss as if we are leaking air.
is this:
a:working as designed
b:something that will go someone's fix list
c:something i can fix given a hint or two.

having a great time in the western Pacific, early August 1944...wish you were here.

thanks for FOTRS!

If you go into the control room, you might see a pipe leaking water up high. That is usally the hiss. I had it a couple of weeks ago, and I cannot for the life of me remember what we did (it wasn't my knowledge) to fix it. I also don't remember if it was CapnScurvy, RR, S7, cdrsubron7, etc... Was it "Save" and reload?...

Hi, I was just wondering. Is there a place where I can see all of the additions to the game made by this mod pack?

Also, is using RSRDC with this mod a good idea? I have just heard of it, but I don't know if it would cause any issues with this mod. Sorry if this is posed somewhere else, i looked and could not find it.

In the Support folder of the mod are several files, one of which is the combination of the v1.2, 1.3 & 2.0 files from AOTD_MadMax, which lists all of the ones he did. Then there are several other ReadMe files of changes since. CapnScurvy would have the most / practical / best changes, with s7rikeback trying to keep pace. max-peck did a lot of the changing Merchant Skins, and XTBilly did some preliminary work on a ships' physics model. Me and cdrsubron7 are in their dust... I guess you could call him & I the "efficiency experts" of the campaign. I break it. He finds it...

Using RSRDC with this mod would not be a good idea. While we've incorporated some of lurker's ideas, and we'll probably include a few more before it's over, there are still a lot of things that are not compatible between the mods. I can practically guarantee you a CTD at any moment, and then you'd have a corrupt save folder too...

Thank you for answering. I was just confused on what this mode adds to the game.

save and reload - no
exit and reenter - no
repair & reload - yes...and no

it worked the first time and when i went back and reloaded the save and then sailed to a port it didnt work (wtf). since the results have been inconsistent i must conclude that the cause of sound effect is a bug in the code that ignores the fact that repairs have been successful.

Sorry I wasn't very clear, that's the thread I was talking about. I've been through it and tried all the settings advised, and tried every other combination I can think of to try to narrow it down.

I haven't done the .exe file settings actually though, I'll give them a go thanks.

It's a factory overclocked card, I haven't tweaked it myself though.

I only use the official nVidia drivers too, but haven't checked for updates in a little while. I'll do a complete uninstall and install the latest ones and see if that helps.

That's not a "new" issue RampantParanoia, and you'll find the jello water and the see-through hulls often together. Another way to get the see-through hull is by looking at a vessel that has a spotlight from another ship shining on it from behind. Just like the sun, the spotlight will come through. Seems to me though, that is was something in the AA before, and that bit about the nVidia control panel was what used to be able to "fix" the issue. Whatever it is that's different between the nVidia cards and the ATI cards, as far as "stock" settings is what used to make the difference. You do have quite a bit more horsepower in your computer than the ones back then though...

Can you "see" water spraying in one of the compartments when using the free camera, Mark?

no water, just air/steam, unless that is what you meant. it seems odd that if you repaired the damage, there would still be a busted valve/connection/pipe in the control room. some developer wanted to keep it very real, eh?

Default spawning like mad...

this one is great!!! i cannot stop laughing.
patrolling in the east china sea, approx 128-15e 29-36n, 9/15/44 0956 local
group of 4 euro liners and 4 matsu DD's zigzagging. current heading 219.

i am approaching from east. range approx 30k yds.
all of a sudden, every ship starts spawning new ships. a very alien experience, man. i expected to be shot at with green-****. am attaching the best screen shot i can capture.

i think this happened one other time on this patrol with a group of unescorted euro liners. what started out as a handful ended up with about 20. they just kept spawning.

anyway, i thought i would share it with you.

P.S. i was presented with another occurrence..this time it was just euro liners. east china sea 128-50e 29 20n 9/15/44 2035 local
