Now I'm not one to profile, but it does seem unusual for a submarine tender to be crewed exclusively by Japanese (or at least Oriental) personnel. Something for the brass to check into, I'd think!

I must say I am really enjoying this first career under FOTARS v0.52. And there was a nice touch awaiting us at Midway in July. We were offered (and accepted) the new Twin 40mm anti-air guns! Love it, and can't wait to challenge one of those magical Judy's with X-Ray vision that can sink you at 200 feet on a very dark night. Thanks again for the hard work, sailors.

Good catch.
I have just checked the Sub_Depot_Ship.eqp and we do have a nice mix of:

char2_CIVSailors
char4_CIVSailors
char_AMSailor_lw
char2_AMSailors

Fixing and testing now... Fix now uploaded to area 51..

Keep them coming folks...

Close enough for horse shoes and hand grenades... that would be the 41a layer then... and a Kongo that's a-fire?... I need my computer!

Default Problem with Twin 40's - CTD

I was so happy to be allowed to add twin 40's to my Balao in mid July 1944, at least until I had to use them. It's very strange, though. On the first patrol with the new AA guns I ran into a Jap plane, coming in low from my port side. I was on the bridge and ordered the gun crews (fore and aft) to fire at will at long range. I saw the fore gun train to port but before a shot was fired I went CTD!

Ok, so loading the same patrol from a saved game where I was 60nm out of Midway, I decided to run a diagnostic test fire into the sea. I manned the guns myself and fired. All guns operated perfectly! No CTD.

Feeling confident now, I proceeded toward Hokkaido to deliver the agent, but encountered a small convoy I think on 8/7/44. There was one Whale Factory ship, an escort destroyer following, three whale chasers, and one of those auxiliary cruisers. We sank the escort and Whale Factory ship with our first salvo, followed by two torps into the cruiser. She eventually sank, leaving only the unprotected Whale Chasers. One happened to be crossing my stern, so I surfaced with the intent of sinking her with 40mm AP ammo myself. I manned the gun, loaded the AP, and touched the trigger, at which point the damned thing went CTD again!

Don't know what is going on with it. I have tried two other Twin 40's in TMO 2.5. One is named S887 Twin 40mm - Mark 28 TMO. That one was flawless. The other is called Snarf 40mm Twin Mod. I could never get past a CTD with that one either.

Any chance you could look at this? I really want those twin 40's! There may be a clue in comparing the above two mods, but it is outside of my ability to do so. Let me know if you need any more info.

Thanks.

The twin 40s on my balao sub are working fine in late November 43, the crew are too bloody useless to even think about tackling any planes again though, we had 52% damage the first time we had a shootout with 2 of them and I'm not going to try that again.

Yes, there were TWO Kongos. Lit the first one up with 4 fish. Spent the next 45 minutes hiding from 5 DE's. ; )

What's the chances. Ran into same BB TF with the same two Kongos and DEs, with the one missing the textures. Was Dec 11th, 1941 after leaving Manila.

Sorry for the darkness.

Alright, our "evidence"... there are at least four Tafees that go by there, none are right exactly where you're pointing in either picture, but they're close enough. In the order of their RGG numbers:

Suspect 1. TaskForce001 Travels from Tokyo West, then South, then East, then West, then North, finally coming by Luzon on its way back to Tokyo... The group has two Kongo BB set to spawn at 100% rate. Also might have an Ise or a CVE Taiyo, both set at 30%. 2 CA are set to always spawn at 100%. No other vessels spawn at higher than 30%. Total DD in the group is only like 8. Suspect has been released from custody due to lack of evidence...

Suspect 2. TaskForce005 Travels from Honshu west, then by Luzon going west-southwest with 2 Kongo BB set to spawn at 100%... 2 Ise and 1 Fuso set to spawn at 50% each, so most likely to see one or two other BB with this group. There are also 2 CA and 2 CL set to spawn at 100%. There are many DD in the group, but only 7 set to spawn at 80% rate, several at 30%, several at 10%. Unlikely to have enough DD vessels, and probably too many BB. Suspect has been released from custody due to lack of evidence...

Suspect 3. TaskForce007 Travels west and then west-southwest by Luzon, similar path to 005. It zigs where 005 zags, and vice versa. Spawns 2 Ise BB at 100%. 2 CA and 2 CL, lots of DD's also... but it's Ise and not Kongo... Suspect has been released from custody, due to lack of evidence...

Suspect 4. TaskForce009 Travels basically east, Singapore to Japan, similar route, but in reverse of the 005 and 007. Has 2 Kongo set to spawn at 100% rate. Also 2 CA and 2 CL spawn at 100% rate. In addition, it has specifically 4 Mutsuki DD set to spawn at 100% and 6 GENERIC set to spawn at 80%, more than likely getting 9 or so DD in the group. Suspect has been retained for further questioning...

There is something wrong in the file. It does not scroll smoothly in the ME, so there's a little something wrong in it, and the Mutsuki is our primary focus, not leaving out all the other DD, of course... - The big question for you Navigator857 is what direction is the TF traveling when you encounter them?

Is there a way to export all 3D models for a ship in S3D at once?

I was going to make the angled and front silhouette recognition manual images for all the ships. But gaah.. is this annoying.

You have to go through the ship's nodes in S3D exporting each model (there are lots for each ship). Then import each of them into a scene in 3d software. Then reference back to each node in s3d to get their positioning.. and then go back to the 3d software to position them.

With the amount of ships in this mod, it would take far too long.

My work after completely importing and positioning all the elements of one ship:

Hmmm, if i had the .dat file format i might be able to write a tool that will do it for me.....

The Mutsuki is still being held on other charges. We're trying to get her to roll over and spill the beans on the Shiratsuyu... Nothing drastically wrong with either vessel, nor with their spawn site...

It's on deck. The Three Horsemen of the Apocalypse are eliminating campaign glitches, CapnScurvy has interior adjustments and I am working on the Silent Hunter 4 Corruption Management System and FOTRSU Installation scripts.

I have collected what I hope is the essential information for making AI adjustments. But I don't multitask. I work on one thing at a time and put all my abilities into it alone. This multitasking stuff is just bullschnitzel: trying to fool people into thinking they are multi-core computers. They are not and we hardly have enough brain power to do one task, let alone three at a time.

torpedobait, do you happen to know what your crew slots look like? Can you re-load from a save, and then look at your boat and crew? See if you've got proper crewing on the gun? I don't know why it would be OK if you shoot it, until you target something...
