Default Torpedo's don't explode

Still at naval acadamy.
First attempt I sank a few ships.
Next torpedo's do not explode
when they hit. Have to arm them somehow?

Hi GertB Welcome to Subsim

Re Torpedo's don't explode that's built into SH3 German Torpedo's were prone not detonate or explode premature in early war years
in early war I use impact setting
magnetic setting in early war upto mid 1940 would result in premature detonation 33-50% of the time also giving your position away to enemy escorts

When you have a ship at 90 degrees Angle on bow, shot with impact pistol, but when the ship has an AOB of 0 to like 60, set the torpedo 1 meter below the keel or it will bounce off the ship and don't explode most of the time.

Ok, but how do I set magnetic detonation.
How do I aim below the keel.
Another thing. In a while the crew has
red excamation marks to them. And seem idled.
What does that mean?

The red exclamation marks mean they are tired. You need to rotate them into the bow or stern quarters to rest. Or use SH3commander and set no fatigue so they never tire.

When you ID the ship type look in the recognition manual. Will give the ship's depth.
Set torp depth 1m below this
There is a rotator switch, I/M
Impact and magnetic

Am sure there was a manual once that came with the game

Ubi.com seems to have the manual DL-page removed. Err 404.
Are other available?

Look at the draft of the ship in the Rec Manual. If using impAct set depth t less than the draft... I.e. if draftvif ship is 10m you set between 9 and 1 to hit.

Magnet trigger is about 2 -5 m under this draft. The worse the weather, the deeper the depth, with added risk of the torp sailing under without impact.

Torpedo's set to M and Fastest give
best results. A setting for 'torpedo hits'=100%
would have been nice though.

Faster does lessen the torps range
T1 ( G7a ) 12000 m (30 kn) slow / 7500 m (40 kn medium ) / 5000 m (44 kn fast)

Silent hunter not "shoot 'em up" game...
Is a simulation game..great simulation
But if you want, open Option gameplay and unchecked "Dud torpedo"
But read what write for you @Nicolas
"When you have a ship at 90 degrees Angle on bow, shot with impact pistol, but when the ship has an AOB of 0 to like 60, set the torpedo 1 meter below the keel or it will bounce off the ship and don't explode most of the time."
This is a great advice
