From 'Aldi', ABV 5.7%

A Marvellous ale which tastes as though it's just been freshly pulled from the pump in a country inn; there's a perfect balance of sweetness and bitterness with a caramel-yeast flavour which really lingers on after you've finished it. This ale has a full-bodied creamy character, as well as a delicious aroma... one I now drink regularly!

^ Tried that one last weekend and must say it wasn't bad at all. Picked up half a dozen from the wife's place of work (M&S) yesterday, will take a couple of shots prior to consumption.

Yes, this one and the "Wild Hare" are what I am mostly drinking right now.

Fancied a lager with my chinese curry after work last night so tried this. I think I've had it before but can't remember for sure.

Quote:
A light and refreshing blend of English lager malt, German yeast, and a blend of American and European hops producing a moreish and drinkable blonde beer.
Far superior to the usual cans of Carling etc.

Default Roaring Meg

From the Springhead Brewery "in the heart of Robin Hood Country", I found myself savouring every mouthful of this... it tastes at first so much of honey, then follows through with the real-ale lover's delicate bitterness... then honey-sweet again... then bitter. A beautiful 'India Pale Ale' which reminds me of the "Wild Hare" earlier, but it's even better (and stronger at 5.5%). Moira got it from ASDA.

FOOD PAIRING

Pale Ale should be drunk alongside foods that either have a bit of bite, such as mature cheese, penne arrabiata, or a bitter-leaf salad, or have a bit of body, like piping hot cannelloni, steak and kidney pie, and, of course, curry
Right up my street because last nights supper was a steak with a hot pepper sauce.

Default "Butty Bach"

Have to report some disappointment with this. Another 'golden ale', it at first tastes honeyed, like the Wild Hare and Roaring Meg, but soon you realise it's rather watery. Moira said the same after tasting it (I didn't give her much) and we concluded it's a beer with which to wash down a nice country meal.

"Butty Bach" is Welsh for "little friend" they say on the label, although my limited Welsh would sooner translate this as "Little dear one" (£1.99 from Co-op stores)

ABV 4.5% (looks good in a jug, though)

One of the finest lagers I've tasted this year, good to go with just about anything you're eating.

Tonight will be an Indian meal and a half dozen or so of these little fellas.

It pours dark brown with a minimal head. The aroma is mild but it offers notes of caramel and some forest fruit. The taste is well balanced but the malts definitely have the upper hand. The sweetness that comes through however is fairly complex, with lots of fruitiness and caramel hints. One of the tastiest English Pale Ales I've had in a fairly long time.
