Default Target ID book

...where is it?

Also, I'm no pro at this game and I miss the marker to tell me if I'm likely to be seen/heard (you know, the sub outline that was filled in various shades of Green to Red).

I haven't played this sim all that much, but you can see the grey circle surrounding your target increase or decrease depending on the situation. If you are on the surface when you approach, the grey "spotting distance" circle is large. When you go to periscope depth, it lessens remarkably as you dive, then disappears. If you then raise your periscope, the circle increases, as you now are "visible". If you look at the top left of your screen and see how much of your periscope is above the surface, and increase it to maximum by raising the periscope using the up and down arrows there, you can see the ship's "spotting circle" increase and decrease. Is this what you mean?
