Default Hmmm...

I'm wondering, given the size of cameras/screens these days, if you can't utilize a tablet-type device attached to your periscope so that you can actually spin your periscope and still see the "screen". Just a thought. It might be impractical space-wise though.

Tomoose,

That is a very good idea! I think it would be possible to take a video feed out of one of the monitors to a small screen inside the periscope.

You are right that currently there is not enough room for a 360 degree rotating periscope. However at some point in the future I hope to replace the Coroplast with a more sturdy and refined wood structure.

At that point I've been wondering if I should go "all in" and design a standing Conning tower/ Control room. Then it would be possible to make room for a 360 degree periscope with your video monitor idea. Something like this -

A 360 degree rotating periscope would give a whole new meaning to performing a Stern Torpedo Attack. Very cool !!!

Thanks,
Tim

That's really something! Better make it ultra realistic and heat that room up to about 95F (or more when you submerge). Turn on a humidifier, throw in some diesel fumes, rancid coffee, body odor, and the fragrance of a bilge.

Welcome Aboard!

You're right, with one exception. If he's in an S-boat operating in the Aleutians he's going to need to turn the AC down to around 45 degrees and wear a coat.

hiromatsuo! After a seven year silent run; what brings a man to the surface-as long as there's a cat port he might as well move in the cat-box also, to give it that overall U-boat atmosphere.

Default Periscope and screen

You would also have to somehow translate the movement of your physical periscope to the keys that turn the periscope on the screen (i.e. turning your physical periscope to the right would be the same as pressing the right-arrow key etc). One suggestion; TrackIR-type setup (sensor part on top of your monitor and the reflectors on your periscope i.e. the periscope takes the place of your head so to speak).

Stale air and body oder appear to be built into the simulator experience. The other day this skipper broke a sweat while making practice dives.

The cats ( Rocky & DJ ) are good to go, they just got a "free passage tunnel. " Closing of the cat hatch was not appreciated!

I would like toggle buttons on the periscope to interface with the game but don't know how to do that. One to control rotation, one for tilt and one for magnification.
TrackIR is a great idea! Will try my old IR3 while on watch on the bridge for starters.

Some video- quick tour with GoPro

New Features:

Star Projector (prototype)

-for adding star light to interior of "skydome" at night
-painted 6 inch glass bowl black, etched small holes and placed over a lamp
-seems to work and could be cool, but needs to be a round glass bowl

Cruising Monitor

-added old 15 inch monitor to work desk to keep Watch on No Time Compression careers
-wireless mouse still works outside of simulator

I like the star projector idea. Very clever.

I wish the suits at Ubisoft had possessed half your dedication.

Thanks. If the star projector works out it might be my favorite thing!

Looking into getting a 5 inch round glass fish bowl and trying this -

And maybe a Moon with phases ??
