radar McDonald’s to Switch to Paper Straws in Britain as Country Turns Against Plastic

Quote:
LONDON — The queen has backed efforts to curb the use of plastics. The Church of England has encouraged a similar push. The British government plans to legislate to require it.
Increasingly, companies here in Britain and elsewhere are joining that campaign, too. On Friday, McDonald’s became the latest to do so. The fast food chain outlined plans to phase out plastic straws across its 1,361 restaurants in Britain, which currently use 1.8 million plastic straws a day, by the end of next year.

We waiting for the rest of the world in this inquiry.

Probably a good idea. I imagine that the average "lifespan" of
the use of a straw is about 5-10 minutes before being thrown away.

I guess I'm old enough to remember when all straws were made of paper.

No plastic for Lent? Sneaky Church of England just looking for a way to increase the number of parishioners nine months from Lent.

I can foresee a problem with drinking something viscous like a milkshake, but that's why we have spoons.

The latest National Geographic says right on the front cover that 18 billion pounds of plastic end up in the oceans every year! Wow!
