Default U-boat project - Revells VII/C

Im currently putting together Revells 1/72 tyep VII/C U-boat, and loving putting it together. When I get ity put together (if at all), im thinking of giving it a 'realistic' paint job, i.e paint worn off/rust etc. So I was wondering if anyone has any tips, or can point to reference sites/books with images of U-boats in colour.
Any help would be much appriciated.

Seen that thread alredy, seems like its very popular kit.

As regards to progress, i've so far put the hull together and added the prop shafts, and that took the weekend to do just that. So this might be a long term project.

Think I will just give the regular VIIC a go

"Action" makes refrence books for Armor, Planes and Infantry, They should have one fer boats an ships.
Buy yourself a nice airbrush, "Pasche" is a decent brand. Then learn about, staining and drybrushing.
Dont try to paint the hull with a brush unless your already a model master.
I was mostly into 1/35th scale armor. 1/72nd is quite large, LOL.
Use "zap a gap" model glue, its got rapid drying times and isnt "gloopy" like other brands of cement.
Go into any decent hobby store and ask for some of these items, Im sure they will be able to point you in the right direction.
Also check out the aforementioned thread theres some good infos and ideas in it. Not too mention a finished picture of someones kit the looks excellent in detail. Good Luck!
Maybe if I can pry myself from my CPU long enough I can join you...I have a couple of divisions of armor in my basement that need assembly.

Heres 1 of my panzers.. sorry pics arent the best but digital cam doesnt have a macro lens...well if it does I dont know how to use it..heh.

I KNOW the tracks are clean but I got weird towards the end of my building. I'd "weather" and damage and then leave clean treads..go figure.

When detailing your Uboat look for the photo etched kits that someone took a shot of, they enhance the overall appearance. The gunsite on the MG on top of the turret is photo etched.

also I was trying out different camo patterns...LOL. I started with green and airbrushed the dark armor yellow over it wich is opposite of the actual practice.

Papa,

I found this a couple of days ago. Hope it helps.
How is the quality of the parts? I stopped building Revell aircaft kits because of the bad quality compared to Hasegawa, Academy, Italeri.

Interesting link:

btw if you want to apply rusty parts, I recommend drybrushing with Humbrol 29. It's a great rust color imo.
Any way, good luck and happy modelling!

Same here. It sits behind me in its box just waiting for me to go on a 1x TC patrol.

Gotta get a good photo-etch brass set before I go to work on it though.

@ Conavaro... regarding Revell Quality... The sub kits are in a far FAR better league than Revell aircraft kits. There really isn't any comparing the two. The Revell 1/72 subs are HOT!

Add a few after-market detail kits... and you've got a real showpiece.

Okay, thanks!
Because I only keep the best 40-50 aircraft, there are only two Revell kits left
And those are the first to leave

those two Revell VII kits really look great to build...If only I were boss in my own house...got to persuade the wife first

I apologize for putting this post in the wrong forum, wasn't sure where to put it.

Any thanks for the advice, will head down to my local library for some reference books. As for painting I'll just be using brushes (im useless with airbrushes), as im good at drybrushing/staining.
Hopefully i'll post some pics here during construction/painting.
