Default TWoS annoyances

1. can i somehow remove the cracking metal sound when i dive past 15-16 meters? i have headphones on and this sound is much too loud and annoying, it was ok the first 5 times but now its just a pita.
if this would be in deep water like 150m or more, id say ok, but from 16 ish meters or more, there is noise in the boat, one needs hearing protection! on top it sounds super repetitive.

this sound file is much too loud compared to the rest, if i make the game volume less so it is less annoying, all the other sounds are very mute. i want this pita gone, how can i get rid of that soundfile without errors? can i just remove it?


2. the navigation map, i am not sure what the author was thinking. the letters are tiny(@1080p), the fonts colour is light gray, this is hardy readable. the fake "dirt" on the map looks like depth changes, sometimes i need to move the map around to see if it is indeed a change in depth or if its just fake dirt texture. however a ton of swastikas everywhere, was that rly necessary?

if i can not get the stock map back, i at least hope i can remove that weird "fake dirt" overlay on the nav map? anyone know if that is possible?


other than this 2 things, i greatly enjoy TWoS for the first time. its well done otherwise.

If you have a sound editing program like Audacity you can edit Creaks_Level1 to lower the volume of it.

There is a clean map mod available.

Open Silent Hunter 5\data\Scripts\Menu\IO_StrategicMap_Settings.py with notepad and you'll find there following lines...It's pretty much self explanatory from this point , I'd say...

This mod removes creaks when the boat is not very deep:

Before you install it remove all the other sound files in this mod if you don't want the other new sounds such as different rain, wind and thunder.

Fixed the annoying "Metal_Door_5_Close/_Open.wav" with Audacity. "Water burst L1 to L3" will be the next ones.

The only thing I've found odd are the engine and water cell sounds. I can be next to the radio operator, close the hatch and it sounds like I'm standing in the diesel room. But I turn a few degrees and the sound tones down. Or I can be laying in my bunk and it sounds like the diesel room is flooding lol
Is this an issue with the in-game 3D sound option?

Has the rain been removed from TWOS? It somehow never rains when I am out at sea...

Thanks for that map guidance!

Oh btw, still would like to remove the bell from the periscope depth soundfile but have not yet found a way to do it manually. Any script or config I can change to do that?
