Default Is the AI smart enough to do this??

TMO 2.5 RSRD S-18 out of Brisbane.

After observing the Battle of Savo Island on August 8/9 1942 (I torpedoed and sunk an IJN heavy CA but they bulldozed over the US ships afterwards in the gun battle...awseome screenshots but can not seem to locate them) I patrolled the slot a few days then on August 20th, I headed to the general area where the Battle of the Eastern Solomons carrier action took place on August 24, 1942.After submerged search(early war tactics since its early war) I made contact with a task force around 1230. Soon I could see I had ran into the IJN carrier task force, what luck.I went to 150 feet and ahead flank to close off the carrier's track when I came up, the task force had shifted course, crap but the Kongo Battleship would be within range, I could make it to 1000 yards off his starboard side for a perfect 90 degree set up according to my plot.I dropped the scope, went to 100 feet and ahead flank for 7 minutes.I came back and got a speed, AOB, range on the Kongo, dropped scope and went back to 100 feet, avoiding an Ashashio DD the came close.

When I uped my scope, a Furutaka heavy cruiser had jetted up and was 500 yards in front of me, I dropped my scope for 30 seconds and raised it again, I could still fire but from 2100 yards on the BB as it had shifted course slightly.I fired 1, 2, 3, tubes
(only 3 fish left after earlier actions against Savo Island force a fast moving DD I fired at but missed on August 12th) at 10 second intervals and dropped scope.Torpedoes were hot straight and normal, they should hit when I heard a general alarm sound.I raised my scope to the see the heavy cruiser circling back to the NW when the TF was heading SE, and the BB was in the start of a zig.The CA sped up and intercepted two of my Mark 10's, one exploded under her number 1 turret, the other was a dud.Soon a massive fire and explosion enfulfed the bow area of the cruiser. The third fish went on but the alerted BB skillfully avoided it, barely.

Now, my question is.....

Did the CA sacrifice itself to save the battleship? is the AI intelligent enough? I have never see one of the mainline ships reverse course during evasion while the other mainline ships sped ahead.I could see a DD doing this but shocked to see a CA do this. The move looked absolutely intentional as like I said, the alarm sounded, I raised scope and saw it looping back, then it sped up in a straight line to intercept my torpedoes! I was amazed.I thought I hit the keys for a screenshot but none are showing up in my files.

Really was an amazing thing. The BB sailed out, the CA sank by the bow in about 40 minutes, her magazines set off as she sank, huge fireball.

Love this sim

I had the same thing happen to me only with a DD. He did a 180 loop and took a torpedo ment for a carrier. I run the same mods as you. He seemed to speed up and slow down at just the right times.

I seriously doubt this was an intentional action by the AI.

I have seen it in FOTRS in the battle of leyte gulf the dd's are chaseing me,the cruisers trying to avoid the the air attack, and the bb's going somewhere else,so when i fire my torps at the bb's i mostly end up hitting the cruisers because they go into the path of my torps.

I did also but I keep rethinking it, his movements were intentional, never seen it before. Now others are saying they have seen the same.Like I said, a heavy cruiser spotted my fish, made a loop back in opposite direction instead of just speeding up, he was never in danger of them hitting him as he was ahead, he looped back and sped up so could screen the battleships from the torpedoes, it was one hell of a sight.

Well we've all seen them turn to avoid getting hit. Just when you think you seen it all in this mod, something else happens to make you say Wow.
