Default GWX or NYGM?

Hello,

I currently play GWX (+SH3 commander, conus widescreen, and Hsie and stiebler hard code fixes) but I am also curious about NYGM. Can anyone tell me what the main differences are with these two supermods and how my experience would differ? Thanks.

They just take a different approach to realism, detail and atmosphere. Neither is necessarily "more realistic", but they take a different interpretation of how to achieve their brand of realism. The easiest explanation is that NYGM is "more hardcore" - there's fewer little graphical and purely atmospheric additions compared to GWX, less (arguably more realistic) traffic, it punishes you much more severely for being too "gamey" with your tactics, things like stealth, detection and evasion are much more difficult. You will spend less time sinking ships and more time evading and surviving. Convoy attacks in NYGM are a significant time investment - mostly because once you are detected, you can usually expect literally hours of trying to lose the escorts, even in good conditions. It's certainly not everyone's cup of tea, but very worthwhile to try!

(I originally posted this 0n 3/21/14)

Just my two cents worth, but I find GWX a little “brighter” in atmosphere, a little more fun. NYGM seems more serious. In GWX, I go out to bag some tonnage, to test my skills. In NYGM, I go out to survive! In GWX, I can enjoy the graphics, the sound, the built-in gee-whiz toys. In NYGM, I’m there to fight. In GWX, if I’m canny and lucky, I just might survive the war. In NYGM, I know the odds are stacked way, way against me and there will be no nach dem krieg.

Both games are good and pretty realistic. But IMO, GWX leans just that little bit toward shoot-em-up, toward personal score and an enjoyable experience. NYGM leans more toward grim reality.

But I’m a reality freak. I prefer NYGM. To me, it just feels the way I think it should. I still play GWX from time to time. But NYGM is my favorite. YMMV.

NYGM is more difficult, IMO. GWX is about trying to survive the war, NYGM is about trying to survive the one convoy attack.

With QWX you enjoy gaming, with NYGM you suffer:03

I still have both installed but I only play NYGM.

I played GWX for about 2 years. I still hop back on occasionally because its really quite good.

Tried NYGM about 8 months ago. There's something about the "feel" of it that's hooked me. It doesn't have the eye-candy and scripted events of GWX, but I never got such a feeling of accomplishment as I do from NYGM. And that's just making it back to port.

Thanks for the insight. Looks like I'll have to make another installation...
