Default Rescuing Survivors

OK, today's 'Silly/Dumb Question' (Yes, I remember the Navy rule "The Only dumb question is the one that's not asked"):

How in the devil does one rescue survivors? My boat's surrounded by pink smoke... I've got one pilot on each beam and I can't figure out how to get them aboard!

What am I missing... Other than a Chief of the Boat, who's smarter than the Skipper?

You have to line them up in the deck gun sights, and press the "fire" button. This will rescue them, or at least make the smoke stop.

Welcome aboard!
Actually, I think you need to get close to them, and slow down to a very low speed/stop. Put the binoculars on the pilot, and a button on the toolbar should light up. Hit the button, be a hero.
(I think that's how it works. I never got many rescue missions.)

There is a port in the rear of the sub. If you back up to them and then go full reverse, they will be pulled into the sub by the propellers.

Been a long time,

Click binoc tab and using your binocs find the pink smoke and find the downed pilot Get close pointing your binocs on the pilot. You should have a unlit life preserver tab when you click on your binocs on the bottom. When you get close enough the life preserver tab will light up, click on the life preserver and you should get notification that the aviator has been rescued. Make sure you keep your binocs on the pilot and sometimes it takes a few chances to get the tab to light up..

I didn't read closely enough. I thought this was about rescuing Japanese sailors bobbing around in the sea after their ship goes down. As much as I've played, I've never done a pilot rescue mission.

Same mission, different problem

Hi all,

firstly, thanks for a great board. This is my first post but I've been a silent listener for much longer (as submariners should be, I guess ). Now I have a problem with the rescue missions as A6E and that is I can't see anybody in the water. I drive up right to where the airman should be (50m maybe?) and there is NOBODY there? How do I pick up someone who isn't there?

Bye the way, I play via Steam and it's the Vanilla version (no mod).

Thanks for the help.

P.S.: Can I rescue japanese sailors, and if so, how? (Yes, I read that one post, I have my doubts, though)

Default Thanks

P.S.: Now I can see them in the water, but there's no new button to press or anything, even when I'm closing to two meters. So what do I do ...?

Welcome aboard.

No, you cannot rescue Japanese survivors. The only ones you can rescue are the US pilots.

Among the look through the Binoculars and make sure the pilot is selected you also have to be going less than 5 knots if my memory serves me correctly.

Aha!

Not selecting the pilot may be my mistake. Thanks a lot I'll try that!
