Default IL-2 Midway COOP

Since I am reading Dauntless Victory about Midway I'm starting to plan a Midway COOP mission.

It would be realistic, you ahve to find and bomb the enemy, no 30 minute game here but a gruelling mission.

Any interest?

Funny, I was toying with the idea of making a string of realistic low level bombing missions a week or so ago. :p No icons, only a general area where the target is, with only a screenshot taken from high altitude to help spot the target. So, yeh, bring it on.

This might be useful. It's an aerial photo of the smaller airfield (Henderson? On the eastern island anyways), a pretty crappy quality, but you make out the buildings and the plane shelters running next to the runways.

I'd be hoping to get about 6 to 8 people airborne. Split the players 50/05 between IJN & USN and have AI too. Would have to experiment with number so it won't hit people to hard.

Mind with the distances involved it would require a good 2 hours to play.

I'm tracking down maps of flight paths too. I have found a few but none that I would call definitive.

I think those are pretty hard to find, especially from the internet. Better off to start looking for after action reports and the position of the carriers etc. and just guess the paths. I'll start looking for stuff here too. I'll let you know if I find anything.

Cool

I have a template for Midway but all it has is teh islands, not carrier positions.

This might take a bit of time but it will be worth it.

I have Midway: Dauntless Victory and want to finish reading it and then reread it to study info.

It was certainly a really confusing battle. Neither side really knew where the others were.

I'm at home all day tomorrow, so I'll see if I can find any information from the internet, I'm quite handy with search engines so hopefully I'll be able to come up with some useful information. Especially regarding the aproximate positions of the IJN Carrer force, as this would be pretty crucial for historical accuracy. I will post any results from my efforts tomorrow evening.

Will there be human pilots flying Wildcats for the USN? Or the USN pilots restricted to the Dauntless? I'd rather fly a Wildcat as escort! I'm pretty ****e when it comes to dive bombing! (Give me a GBU-24B/B anyday lol).
