OMG tell me about it, LOL! :rotfl:My point with that "tip" was simply to highlight that behind the scenes a lot--a real lot--goes on. Call it self-indulgent or whatever to make a point of it, but the seemingly pretty interface does hide a lot of grunt work.

Thanks. And I'll take this opportunity to formally thank irish1958 for his diligence in reviewing the User Guide and providing consistently valuable feedback for its improvement.

Hi Jscones,
i use your fantastic tool with every supermod i use. With this new version i got a little problem with WAC3.0 and S-Boot-Mod (ontop GWX2.1). With normal GWX 2.1 it works fine but with both installations above i get this error message when try to update my personal file: Invalid argument to date encode.
Some idea why? I did not have this problem with older 3. Versions.
Thanks for your help in advance.
Kind regards

Did you delete any save games in the career? If so, that'll be the reason because SH3 gets itself confused datewise when you revert to a previous save point. To fix, go back into the career in SH3 and exit again, that'll fix it.

:hmm: Was it a first patrol? That's another SH3 bug that sometimes foils SH3Cmdr.

If not, I have no idea - usually the error is caused by reverting to an earlier save point or the "first patrol no tonnage bug".

I've made no changes to anything other than the ship names feature and crew manager component, so I'm at a loss to explain why you would now have this problem.

You might have to email me your career files for those that are failing (sans save games).

Email address is in the top of JoneSoft.txt.

Email the files that are in the career folder only, not any files in the 0, 1, 2 etc sub-folders.

Thanks. Received and reviewed. You should have my response by now.

For the benefit of others, this was an example of the "upgrade before first patrol" stock SH3 bug. There's really nothing SH3Cmdr can do about this; sure, I could trap the error, then look at the Log_0.cfg file and get the correct career start date from it, but that doesn't fix up the missing renown or ship sunk data that are also symptoms of this bug. And TBH I have no intention of writing another 100 lines of code to correct another stock SH3 bug (there's enough lines like that in there already, LOL!), especially when there is a well known and advertised way to avoid the problem in the first place.

And that is?

Don't upgrade your boat before you start your first patrol in a new career. Alternatively, if you feel you must do so, then save just before docking at the end of the patrol. If you do then get the bug, it seems that re-loading the save game and re-docking fixes it.

In summary, if you receive an "Invalid argument to date encode" error when attempting to create a Personnel File in SH3Cmdr it will be because of this bug. You can confirm for yourself by opening Patrols.cfg and checking the StartYear, StartMonth and StartDay values under [PATROLS 000]. If they are all 0, then you have caught the bug. You'll also notice 0 ships sunk, 0 tonnage sunk and 0 renown received, and a few others that I've forgotten now.

Unfortunately this is just one of those stock bugs that is not practical to work around in SH3Cmdr.

JScones thanks for this super duper update of SH Commander. Installed for use with GWX 3.0 without any issues .
