Default Midway Oops!

Sitting at Midway, July 23 1944, USS Balao, just been replenished. Large aircraft taking off from Midway, over my head and flying around. They have a 'H' tail. and are 4 engined. So must be Liberators. But one was a kamikazi pilot. He was flying along near to me, and flew into the superstructure of a fairly large battlewagon moored nearby - exploded, and fell into the sea, 1 survivor. The battlewagon was unscathed.

I always replen at midway or Johnson atoll when operating from PH because if I leave torps empty, it refills at PH with mk14's. If I replen, it reloads the torps of my choice. Saves me having to empty the mk14s to fill with later Mks.

Which mod, if any, are you using Red Devil? In stock, and several of the mods, the airplanes are set to fly too slow, so much so, that when they go to bank for a turn, they lose altitude (and attitude ) and down they go...

I was following the plane from the conning tower on bino's and it was flying straight and level. enemy planes can be quite high and dive (swoop)

That's probably what it is then. When putting planes in, the game "defaults" to setting them too slow, such as 98 knots for a bomber that has a cruising speed of 130 knots. While it's fast enough to fly, it's barely above stall speed for the game. Couple that with planes grouped too close together with their 'collision avoidance' kicking in, along with a low CrewRating, and planes will fall out of the sky. We've been working on that in FotRSU for quite a while, and still find groups that self-destruct...

Back at Midway again, after finishing the next patrol. Parked up, but north of the island this time. Saw two liberators on radar so shot across the island to follow thwm on camera. Sure enough, second plane hit a ship, and the first went on a hit a dockyard crane on the north side of the smaller island. Estimated height approx 60-80 feet

Midway area - again. Returening from mission with only 9% hull damage - nothing else. Suddenly 'periscope destroyed', 4.5 inch gun destroyed, AA guns destroyed. No enemy anywhere in sight, nothing on radar, no friendly or otherwise, totally on my lonesome, about 100 miles west of Midway. Nothing on sonar, been hit by a phantom North Korean missiles!!! Before N Korea existed!!

Been years since I've played with mods, have you tried attaching planes to a ship group. I know I did it once, sort of worked as I recall, seems plane spawned in with the group and just did massive circles around it.

Fall of the Rising Sun Ultimate, which is in beta, does an extensive re-working & combining of all of the original Fall of the Rising Sun mods' versions, keeping all of the ships and its environment, along with adding more... Good stuff.

I distinctly hear him say "dog" here (ignore the clip's title):
