Default Back in the control room...

Well, after a long desk assignment at Pearl when finished with SH IV, I'm back under the waves again.

Started playing Cold Waters after seeing videos on YouTube posted by one of my old BlitzPig flight sim buddies, Waz.

I've been looking for a new single player sub simulation and I must say I'm glad I've found this one. I was initially hesitant because let's face it, it's a huge jump from a Gato to a 688i. But I've adapted to the new command fairly quickly and am enjoying playing the cat and mouse game again. In fact the best moments so far have been when I have not fired a single weapon. Creeping around to stealthily get in the baffles of a Victor or an Alpha, or better, evading them altogether after landing a Seal Team and having no more offensive weapons left is great fun.

It's good to be back at the con...

Surviving a challenge always feels good. Even if it itches under the bandages.

I'm still learning to thread the needle so I am not pounced upon with everything they've got especially in shallow waters.

Got any tips to pass along to help get out of the detection zone? Some of those surface escorts are firing torpedoes at me before my crew has finished telling me that "we're in the soup again".

Much depends on which boat your are in, but my basic tools are:

1. When transiting to your mission area on the big map, dodge every enemy contact, as best you can.

2. As you approach your mission area, slow down. you want to be at 5 knots when you enter the mission area.

3. Play it like a game of chess, because that's what it is. If your instinct is to shoot first and ask questions later, you will have a glorious, but short, career.

4. SLOW DOWN and GO DEEP. Even if you can't go deep, don't stay at that default 5 knot setting for ultra quiet. If they can't hear you, your chance of survival goes way up.

5. The MOSS is your friend.

Thx, the tip about less than 5 knots was really helpful.
