Default RA sonar buoy connection

For some reason while I was playing with my Orion and Udaloy I would have intermittent connections to VLAD and Russian equivalent buoy to VLAD.

Despite me being in the vicinity of the buoy the data from the display would come and go away constantly.

However it doesn't not happen always and sometimes it just happens after some time playing the mission and couple of buoy in the water.

Is this know issue or some normal behavior?

You have to be at a high enough altitude to get a signal.

The game's LOS effects are a little extreme, IMO, but basically if you're flying too low you will lose the radio connection to the buoy.

Try flying at 50-200 feet for torpedo or weapon drops, and over 1500 feet for search work. If you need MAD / SAD 500-1000 feet is enough to still pick up a contact as well as give good radio range on your sonobuoys.

West type sonobuoy station can't recive data from East type sonobuoys and vice versa.

Orion uses:
-DICASS
-DIFAR
-VLAD

..but Udaloy recives only:
-RGB 55A
-RGB 25
-RGB 75

Also BT sonobuoy is not compatibile for west and east type of platforms

It happens even when I am over it with plane.
Also when I play with Udaloy I have just dropped the buey and I am still in the vicinity of it and I am having issues with connection. It doesn't say out of range as it says when you are too far away but the standard one Connection established waiting for data..then the data appears for a second then it shows again the message waiting for data and it cycles like that

In Manual folder you have !DWX_RA_1_42_OPFOR_INFO. There are described "features" for current and older version RA.
 

Some important info about add-on "Reinforce Alert" (DWX 1_42 version).

25 - Fix bug when destroyed Special Forces not remove from mission.
26 - Trilogy Campaign for OHIO: fix.
27 - Trilogy Campaign for IL-38 MAY added. (with slider show).
28 - The frequency scales on the DEMON of russian subs were changed*.
29 - SSP Convergence Zone: fixed to ensure that AI platforms also receive a peak of noise from the player's platform when the player enters the ring zone.*
Range of best signal strength CZ Ring has been increased to 2.2 Nmi, but the increment of noise has been reduced. In most cases, a broadband waterfall, will note this by slight perturbation.
30 - Wakehoming search algorithm fix. Torpedoes are no longer induced from the front hemisphere from the target. The guidance is possible only if the torpedo crossed the wake.*
Or torpedo not crossed the wake, but passes under the keel of the ship - magnetic detonator will work for blow at target.
31 - AI Krivak-V added to Russia NAVY.
32 - Driveable SHANG SSN: Fixed a bug where missiles could not be launched from any depth.*
33 - Fix bug when minefield with scenario for original DW, call CTD DWX 1.42 add-on in game.
34 - Syria NAVY added.
35 - The random generated transit and search speeds of the AI torpedoes, were reduced to an integer. Which increases the reliability of the player's calculation of on the rule of 6 minutes.
(A difference of 0.5 knots between the true speed of the torpedo and its speed at the player's demon station).
36 - Bug fix when torpedo launch from ship, allways transit on maximal speed, by reason enable engine in air, but not in water.
37 - USNI reference full reworked. Objects allowed for command ALT+I, including land based objects.
38 - Weapon malfunction have been introduced (small percent). Mines, Torpedoes, Missiles and Sonobuys can be refused - now they are not 100% reliable weapons.
This option can be disabled via Dangerous Waters.INI file: After the first launch of version 1.42, the line WeapMalfunctions appears in this file.
Set it NO, if you want the weapon to be 100% functional.

39 - User Kilo ShipControl: has been fix diesels.
40 - Mk 37C User Torpedo: Fix.
41 - Some Diesel Sub Cavitation Profile has been fix. (Including problem with cavitation Foxtrot SS at snorkeling depth, with 3 kts moving speed)
42 - Added info file (User Manual Folder): Weapon_142_info.txt

Its look fine, but your problem from post 1 is not the same like from post 4.

Also problem from post 4 didn't exist in earlier version RA because it is new feature called "Weapon malfunction".

I did some tests and:

1) .WeapMalfunction Yes
- 1/8 sonobuoys had defect
- test takes 15 minutes

2) .WeapMalfunction No
- all 8 sonobuoys works well
- test takes 15 minutes

I know 8 sonobuoys is not too much, but in last 6 MP a had always 1 or 2 sonobuoys malfunctions.

Spoken to soon...

It started again. It does not happen always and it does not happen with every buoy. However, it seems that it is always the VLAD and the Russian equivalent buoy to have issues.

It happens mostly in longer session (quick missions but more time required to catch the sub) sometimes you can drop load of buoys and no issues and other times on 3 VLAD you will have issues with it, it takes time and data to recreate the issue.

Also I have noticed that if you know where the contact dot would be on display if there was not the message that is showing and click "Mark" button it will actually mark it.
