Default Installing SH3 GWX with MS 10

Hello Gentlemen,

I am seeking some help re- installing my SH3 game along with SH3 Commander and the GWX mod on my new (used) computer with Windows 10.

My situation is I have installed SH3 game from my old disk and patched to 1.4b_us. When I try to launch the SH3 game I get an error message on the Protection System scan.

My question is should I go ahead an install GWX and see if it cures the problem.

Where do you have it installed? It should not go in either of the Program Files folders. Better to create a new folder on the 'C' drive and put it in there. I called mine 'Games'.

Gentlemen

Thank you for your responses. I re-installed SH3 to the C| hard drive. I still get error message and the game won't launch. Any other suggestions? All help appreciated.

With GWX and SH3Commander you also need to install a config file needed for the GWX version 3.2.

Your disc has Starforce protection on it.
You will need to remove this protection before you can complete your installation or alternatively replace it or get a download SH3 version.

Check this out.

My computer is an Acer Inspire, with all the newest bell & whistles. It has a Hybrid hard-drive, consisting of a 512gb SSD (Drive C) mated with a 3 TB HDD SATA (Drive D). I've placed Steam, and every game that I have on the D: drive, because the SSD fills up pretty quickly. The usual routine:

D:Steam/steamapps/common/SilentHunter III

Steam, itself, is located on the C: drive. But like I said, all the applications are installed on the D: drive.

I don't think it would be a good idea to put any of Steam's application into Program Files, no matter what kind of hard drive you have.

By the way, my old computer was a HP with Windows 7 Home Premium, and it would not play SH III, at all. The new one has Windows 10, and based upon advice on subsim-com, I downloaded SHIII, tonight, and it works perfectly. Looking forward to downloading GWX Gold, tomorrow. My favorite sub game of all time, mated with my favorite mod!

Icon14 Installing SH3

Hello Gentlemen,

I want to thank everyone for your helping me to install SH3 and GWX. The key was using the new 1.4b patch to end the old disk security scan and installing the game in the C; and not the default location. Everything is working great now and my U-boat is on the prow once again.

Thanks to all again.
