Default Can't find any video tutorial for manual TDC in TWOS, help?

So I guess I have found a few video tutorials, but for the sake of keeping the title short, I will specify now: I can't find any tutorial videos for TWOS that aren't Real Navigation. There don't seem to be any that show how to use manual TDC with map updates on.

I've played a bit of SH4 before installing SH5 with the TWOS mod and I seem to do fine: I get the speed of the target, set the correct angle for my firing solution and I get something like 75% success. But in SH5 with TWOS my torps are constantly veering hard left or hard right, there is something that I obviously don't understand abut setting up Angle on Bow and Bearing.

Most videos are either to showcase the game, certain mods, or for 100% realism. All of my videos are based on the latter! It takes a bit at least for me to make them. Good luck to you.

Here is one of the better manual TDC tutorials.

Now the only thing I keep mixing up is when to turn off or on the thing to input data like speed or aob (when using WE), when to lock or unlock or keep it locked.

I know that Auto TDC is Lock, unlock, aim, fire.

But Manual TDC is that Lock and keep locked? Or also Lock, enter data, unlock, fire.

Annoying. LOL.

By the way, manual tdc with map updates should work the same since you get your data from your map and then enter it into the tdc.

I use 100% realism, with the auto TDC option off, but... you can still use your XO to give you a rough estimate on the AOB, speed, etc.

It makes me check the work, and that feels real, because commanders would never do it alone!

I got really annoyed when my navigator decided to start giving me data on my target. He continually gets speed aob and range WRONG! Pity I cannot fire him.

We tracked a merchant passenger and cargo freighter and he said it was going 221kts (8) range was 12500 (7650) and AOB was -33 (+67).

Could you perhaps tell me when to lock/unlock and fire in manual tdc? I now am switching between auto and manual each torp to improve my hit chances.

I lock immediately, but I in put manually into the TDC my solution early. Then start using XO. His error is influenced by what you input into TDC or his screen manually. So don't use him at beginning without inputting a general solution.

Also the only time I would rely on his solution only is if my target is within 1000m and I can't get a solution quick enough.

Interesting! Have not tried that yet!

Will try it with my next contact.

I figured it out! I 315 the target, intersect it at a 90degree perpendicular. Unlock my TDC, then set my bearing to 0 and set AOB to 90 degrees port or starboard, then estimate and input distance and the speed I got from 315ing it. Then lock the auto TDC again and sit back and wait for the ships to cross at a good angle and KERPLOWI... or more recently "thud "The torpedo was a dud""

In SH3 without the real navigation I relied heavily on fast 90 with a 3:15 check or two. Now in SH5 with real navigation I find that process to be prohibitively cumbersome and have switched over to almost exclusively relying on the RAOBF which after some practice is amazing to use IMO...

As far as SH5 with having map contacts on etc, any manual TDC method or tutorial will apply, heck even tutorials from SH3 should still apply to SH5 as far as the TDC goes. The TDC is the TDC regardless of the game and the functions and principles should remain the same.

I really recommend all manual TDC'ers to give the RAOBF a try. I find that I can focus on maneuvering my boat into an attack position with no need for specific solution until much closer to the torpedo launch. I can rapidly acquire a solid firing solution from a wider variety of angles with RAOBF. I can typically stay off the map entirely for firing solutions now which gives me tremendous mental flexibility in the attack as well as more time for observation if necessary.

As far as actually inputting data acquired by any method into the TDC, the basic principle is when you lock the TDC it follows your scope/UZO updating the AOB. To spin the TDC dials manually you must unlock it. Ensure your scope/UZO stays on the same bearing (ie not tracking target) while you unlock the TDC or else you can mess up your AOB setting. Otherwise after you set your AOB, speed, and range you can re-lock the TDC, spin your scope around and rock and roll.

Nice results, now turn map updates off and give Real Navigation a try...! Just teasing, to each their own!

I COULD probably do it, but there's no way the captain would do all of this himself- what's the point of having a WO, Watchman, and navigator if I'm doing all of that myself? :P
