Default Sh3 gone dark, graphical glitch

Started a career 3rd patrol, about 40,000 tons sunk already.
Running GWX no sh3 commander had a problem with it but I think I know what that is.

Specs
Intel Core i7-7700K CPU @ 4.20Ghz quad core
16GB RAM
Windows 10 64-bit
Nvidia GTX 1080

Anyway mods I'm running

GWX
TMT with EFS
Magui Final
Real weather fix
Also I tried the sh3 weather mod 1.5 - didn't bother with it though.

I was partway across the North Sea when... see below screenshot - any thoughts as to what caused this, is it a common issue?

I'll try to post a screenshot as soon as I figure out how. It's too large a file size at the moment.

If someone could tell me how to post a screenshot of the game I would be grateful. So far I tried drag and drop, but there doesn't seem to be a function on the post window that allows you to either attach an image. I can't seem to get it to appear i get the following error -

Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 33554432 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 1551455 bytes) in /home/subsimc/public_html/radioroom/includes/functions_wysiwyg.php on line 55

You'll need to use a picture editor program in order to "re-size" the image, and preferably "save it to a jpeg format for further compression. If you don't have anything appropriate on your computer, you could download GIMP, which is a GNU licensed proggy, and usually does a good job. The one thing about it is, when you open a bitmap file (bmp), you'll have to use the "Export" on the "File" menu to get a jpeg (jpg) file, since Gimp wants to save in its own format. You could then either upload to here, once you get the size down, or upload to another web site and link to that here.

Thank you for your reply propbeanie - One question though how do I upload the image to a post once resized and jpeg'd? So far I've been dragging and dropping or copy pasting, and it hasn't worked.

... and to add a picture to one of your existing posts, use the [Edit] button that's on your post when you're logged-in. Once you're in the post that way, you can (for the most part) edit text or add pictures.

Hi ks
Disable your mods.
Go to the Naval Academy and load a tutorial.
Is it working properly or do you still have a problem?

Default Tried what you suggested

I disabled the mods,

Ran naval academy mission navigation. No the problem didn't appear, graphics were as normal.

It seemed last time to happen once mid patrol then I couldn't continue with the patrol - clearly as there's no sea to look at.

Does Silent Hunter III have a problem with windows 10 or later GPU's perhaps?

Aside from the fact that it looks like a Scottish summer, there's more than just darkness going on: the caps, heads and binoculars are also missing. File-corruption perhaps?

Default Scottish Summer eh?

Hahaha, Scottish Summer, funny. File corruption - that's quite a broad term, so I gather for computer problems. Maybe I should reinstall and lose my 40,000 tons you think? that is if its a corrputed file on install is that what you may be suggesting?

Thoughts? god knows I'd rather be playing sh3, than pestering you mob with my computer glitches, but any help so far is appreciated - and I know how to upload screenshots now, many thanks!

The fact that your naval academy is working properly shows that your game is running perfectly.

Two separate things here Windows 10 and your GPU.

Yes, SH3 does not like OS10 and SH3 should be run in compatibilty mode for Windows 7.
Your GPU needs to have certain settings which will be compatible with any SH version not just SH3.
Post #7 Changing Nvidia And AMD Radeon GPU Settings
Your applications should also be run as administrators.

Your problem lies with your enabled mods or a mod that is in not compatible with another mod.
When enabling your mods check which files are being over written.
Any grayed out mod is being overwritten by at least one other mod.
This should not be difficult as your problem appears to be something that is changing the graphics in your game.

What mods are you using?

I have a question, on my first patrol I accidentally saved the game, without thinking. I know from experience, and from this forum that saving is NOT recommended. Can the save problem carry over to a different patrol, or in this case cause a problem like this in the second patrol. The screenshot is from the third patrol, and I saved on the second as I mentioned.

Could THIS be the issue here?

I saw your post on the graphics card settings. Well I got sh3 working by adding sh3 to run programs made for previous versions of windows, rather than rolling back my Graphics card drivers.

I can't export my mod list coz I'm running an older version of JSGME, but I am confident there is absolutely no conflicting mods, nothing greyed out. Here is my complete mod list anyway, in order.

Magui Final
TMT v2 with EFS (GWX3 version)
RealWeatherFixMod
GWX - Alternative Load Screen - Full Circle
GWX - No Medals on Crew

I don't see any mod conflicts. So I'll try your graphics setting guide instead.

Cheers
