Default Uboat book for Christmas

Hello all,

My wife wants to know what to get me for Christmas and I was browsing the Uboat books on Amazon. So far I think I am going to tell her to get me the Haynes type VII manual. However, I wanted to ask on here if anyone could suggest some books that discuss the entirety of Uboat operations. Not just in the Atlantic but the Med, Carrabian, Indian Ocean, etc. Thanks!

I'm not sure if there's a book that describes all U-boat operations during the war, but I'd avoid Haynes' U-boat manual like the plague. I've never seen a submarine book so ridiculously filled with historical and technical inaccuracies. The book says that Type VIIs had "Target Motion Analysis" mines, the crews wore "infrared night vision goggles" at night, gives the Type IX a 182 knot maximum speed, describes the Type XIV as a modified version of the Type IXD, and has pictures of every other U-boat design of the war captioned as being Type VIIs!

Haynes has a "workshop manual" for the A-class submarine Alliance that's better in just about every respect. Lots more diagrams and detailed explanations of how the boat's systems worked, and you won't slap your forehead every other page!

Ah okay thanks for the heads up. I saw one of the reviews mention a few of those errors, I'll stay away from it.

Any chance that you have seen the Illustrated Edition of the Uboat Commanders Handbook? I think I have the pdf of the regular version on my computer but if it is a nicely put together book I'd like to have a physical copy. Esspecially if there are lots of photos and diagrams.
