Default Catholic Priests Abused 1,000 Children in Pennsylvania, Report Says

Quote:
Bishops and other leaders of the Roman Catholic Church in Pennsylvania covered up child sexual abuse by more than 300 priests over a period of 70 years, persuading victims not to report the abuse and law enforcement not to investigate it, according to a searing report issued by a grand jury on Tuesday.
Quote:
The report, which covered six of the state’s eight Catholic dioceses and found more than 1,000 identifiable victims, is the broadest examination yet by a government agency in the United States of child sexual abuse in the Catholic Church. The report said there are likely thousands more victims whose records were lost or who were too afraid to come forward.

I have no words for that, nor does it matter to the perpetrators.

Sick bastards, they should lock them up, they think they are above the law!!
These people hold a position of trust which makes it all the more serious, castration would be a fitting punishment!!

Most worrying is the fact this is happrning or was happening in quite a few other countries as well.

It's always happened everywhere, we just hear about it now.

This is only the tip of the iceberg. Cardinal Donald Wuerl, now archbishop of Washington, led the Diocese of Pittsburgh, for 18 years. Donald Wuerl had personal knowledge of the abuses and paid off victims as well in exchange for non disclosure.

Quote: Wuerl’s predecessor as Washington archbishop, Cardinal Theodore McCarrick, sexually abused seminarians and young priests, and spent nearly 20 years molesting a young boy, the first person he baptized, beginning when the child was 11.

My American Enterprise Institute colleague Michael Strain has recommended bringing back former Oklahoma governor, federal prosecutor and faithful Catholic Frank Keating to lead the investigation. In 2003, Keating resigned from a lay-member church-appointed board looking into abuse after he refused to apologize for comparing the coverup by the bishops to the Mafia. That makes him precisely the right man for the job.

A petition has been started to remove Cardinal Donald Wuerl's name from a newly built catholic High School in the Pittsburgh area.

http://www.post-gazette.com/news/edu...s/201808160101

Church Militant has learned that the archdiocese of Washington, D.C. has hired prestigious law firm Jones Day to represent Cardinal Wuerl in response to the Pennsylvania grand jury report. Jones Day represents major American corporations, including Procter & Gamble, CitiGroup, General Motors, Goldman Sachs, JP Morgan and American Airlines, to name just a few.

https://www.washingtonpost.com/.../c...e8-83d2-70203b...

Reports are that to retain this firm is $50,000 to $75,000 per month. Church Militant has queried the archdiocese of Washington, D.C. asking who is paying for this representation and where the money is coming from. As of the time of this report, the archdiocese has not responded.

If there is any justice, Wuerl should be indicted with the other slime balls he protected. This must be a time of repentance. Repentance requires accountability. And accountability requires resignations — starting with Wuerl’s. Lost in the shuffle is the abuses suffered by school age children at the hands of Nuns in Catholic schools. The nuns were just as bad with regards to physical violence and sexual abuses that they visited upon trusting and defenseless children as well.

Default Cardinal Wuerl resigns amid deapening church abuse crisis.

Earlier today, the Pope accepted the resignation of Cardinal Donald Wuerl, the archbishop of Washington. Donald Wuerl was mentioned in a scathing Pennsylvania Grand Jury report dealing with his coverup of sexual abuses within the Catholic Church.

In August, the Pennsylvania Supreme Court released a grand jury report detailing sexual abuse. It named over 300 accused Catholic clergymen. The investigation found more than 1,000 children had been abused by members of six dioceses in the state over 70 years. Church Wuerl's name was mentioned 200 times in the report.

Cardinal Wuerl will stay on for an interim basis until a replacement can be found. Further, In an interview, Cardinal Wuerl said that he would continue to live in Washington and that he expected to keep his position in Vatican offices that exert great influence, including one that advises the pope on the appointment of bishops.

This action seems to be little more than getting Wuerl out of the spotlight so the Church can continue to do business as usual. Allowing Wuerl to stay on sends mixed signals, at the very least.

Yeah, but did you read the weasel words that the pope used?

Still making the claim that "mistakes" may have been made but no actual cover up.

I did catch the " double speak " used by the pope and senior officials. The Catholic Church didn't make mistakes but paid out millions to settle things they are not responsible for or " mistakes . "

This whole episode is a disgrace.

The Pope does not have the people that worship him in mind, but only those that serve him. This is so horrible it could split the Catholic church into a church without the Pope, but religion is so weak that it needs a leader.

I have a personal relationship with my Lord and saviour Jesus Christ ... I don't need another man or woman telling me what to do.

If you believe in God you have to believe that the devil is involved in this also

Isn't that Protestantism?
