Default EAW

I read at simHQ that a new thing - patch, mod, upgrade, whatever-it-is - has been released with version number 1.28a, and I remembered EAW and some biblical-sized air battles it gave me over ten years ago. Especially in SP it was much more fun - more atmospheric - than IL2.

Does anyone know what their status is with this thing? Does it run under XP? Does it recognise modern controller setups, and rudders? TrackIR? Does it run with decent resolutions? I mean I have not collected one piece of info about EAW's fate in the past ten years, so whatever there is to know - I don't know it. Assuming I get out my old disc that is still hidden somewehre, if only i knew where, what would I need to know to get it running these days? I tried twice in the past years, only to run into problems with controller setups, and messy graphics. Worth to give it a third try?

IIRC, if you have a Nvidia card, it wont run. Not sure if Nvidia has fixed the issue or not, tho.

Try searching for a fix, if I recall correctly, it did work until the new-ish cards. IIRC had something to do with new cards not supporting 3dfx or something like that.

I just learned more about it, and stumbled over plenty of possible problems, incompatabilities and needs for registry entries, so I think it is not worth it for me. they say that they reached an agreement with the legal rights holder that they are allowed to produce new exe's as well as long as they do not produce profits with it, so there is a chance that there will be more substantial indepth editings being done, solving the known issues there are.

Let's check back in a year or so.

Yes it's the error 7127 or something like that with any new Nvidia driver. You need an old version of the drivers, which actually will no longer even install in PCIexpress cards. Using an ATI the game will work BUT you won't get horizon clouds, which makes the game look much worser.

A great classic I loved much at that time, though
