Default Keep crashing

A convoy is given on radio, one of those "circle" ones. I get closer, but the game crashes. I assume the crash occurs when I am close enough that it must simulate it more accurately.

I tried using less time compression, such as just 64, to see if that helped, but it still crashed. I never had this problem before. (Ive had some random crashes, but this one happens without fail, I tried three times now)

Is there anything I can do? Will I just have to not touch this convoy? Is there some log or files somewhere which states why it crashed?

I am using latest patch and grey wolf mod, latest edition

IIRC a convoy marked with a circle has an enemy submarine traveling surfaced in it. If it is about the submarine you won't meet them anywhere else AFAIK. You'll probably avoid the CTD by avoiding the convoy.

thing is though, i played the game yesterday and saw a convoy of the same type, (circle). And I was able to attack it just fine!

I am reluctant to give up and leave, it might be a long time to find another convoy... I am not good at finding ships

I loaded a save from a minute earlier, and approached from the different direction.

It froze a litlte, but then continued. Instead of it being a circle convoy, it was now a square convoy, but an IXB submarine was also written via radio as heading south along with it. Maybe that submarine was causing problems, since it seems the submarine is no longer "part" of the convoy (but I also read circle convoys can mean submarines are going to attack it or something)

Ok now I ham having a different crash problem. Every time I load a save, it crashes after going "not so long ago"

Is there any way to save those save files?

AFAIK no, that save game is doomed.
You should re-load a previous one, losing that doomed save.
But before you do that just wait for other answers...

Could you report roughly where you were(Kriegsmarine Grid) when you received that Radio Contact Report? IIRC I read there is an usolvable bug in the game that happens when two task force/convoys span simultaneously near your location and which make every save game you do form that moment on a currupt one.
Maybe it's what happening here...

I cant really go back to see where it was exactly, it was a few patrols ago, I would maybe lose all my current saves. either way, that problem went away after i approached from different direction, letting it travel it bit longer.

that is too bad about losing the saves, i sunk my first cruiser in some convoy with 4 destroyer escorts, 1941. sinking large merchant and some smaller things

oh well, those hours are lost then. I will just say I was dreaming in the captains bed :p

Sorry, I didn't explained the situation well, I meant that: "I read there is an usolvable bug in the game that happens when two task force/convoys span simultaneously near your location and which make every save game you do form that moment on a currupt one for that patrol." (i.e. while at sea).
Glad you sorted it out

I stumbled recently upon the same issue, that makes the game crash when approaching these "round" convoys. I figured out, that when I deactivate the Waterstream+Exhaust Combi v.2.3 for GWX3 mod, the game crash no more in vicinity of these "round" convoys.

So, every time I get a radio message of "the round convoy" and I want to attack it, I make game save and exit the game to go deactiviting that mod. After the convoy is again far away, I can reactivate that mod, cause it causes no other problems(I hope).
