Default Game crash on end patrol

A VERY annoying problem...

There's a problem during my campaign, I've just been moved from Java to Fremantle, and I started a mission there, doing some photo recon in Singapore and a little patrol here and there.

On my (long) journey back I reach Fremantle, I get the option to end patrol,
I click it, I get the screen with objectives completed and tonnage sunk, but after I click the NEXT button the game crashes. I get a small window that says 'silent hunter 4 has stopped working'.

I tried deleting my savegame and starting the mission again, I even tried shortening the mission to just taking a photo and getting back to base.

Same problem. Any solutions?

Making SH4 large address aware cleared up this issue for me.

The game crashing at the end of a patrol was something that happened early in the games life. What version of SH4 are you currently using. If your using the origional version of the game (v1.0), you need to patch it up to v1.4. It would be even better if you upgraded to v1.5 which is the UBM. V1.5 is the final version and I believe the game crashing at the end of the patrol has been eliminated, but not 100% sure of that.

Also upgrading to v1.5 makes almost all the mods available with SH4 compatible then.

Well, since I don't have an official copy, I wonder if that's gonna work for me.
Yes, I got a copy from a friend, he does have the original but he copied it for me to a dvd.

And I have no idea where I can buy an original one.
I can buy SH5 but I read bad reviews about that one.

Easily remedied. Check here. Scroll down the page a bit until you see SH4: The Gold Edition.

Thank you, cdrsubron7. That is the only sanctioned solution for this problem.

1. There are safeguards within the game to provent it working with pirated copies.

2. I would suggest that you read Subsim's rules on this practice.
