Default How to edit savegame so mission is completed?

Hi guys,

For some reason a photo recon mission is not complete, although I did photograph a ship / a photo is present (stock game).
How can I edit my savegame so it has this mission ticked?
Thanks.

Best,
Brett

p.s.:
I only realised while I restocked at Midway, no way I'm going back to Tokyo bay.

Do you remember the specifics of your instructions? In some of the missions, you are supposed to get photos of a specific class of ship, such as carriers. Some of the photo missions in Stock are not built correctly, and therefore you cannot complete them. I cannot remember if missions toTokyo are among those. Maybe someone else remembers specifics. If you sank some ships though, I wouldn't worry too much about not completing that Primary...

Thanks.
Photo-recon Tokyo harbor. From the SaveData.rmr file:

Code:
[Log Entry 217]
Type=0
EntryText=From: COMSUBPAC|To: USS Balao|Intelligence has requested a update on the enemy presence in Tokyo bay. Recon the area and, if possible, infiltrate the anchorage and photograph any enemy ships encountered.
EntryTitle=01:45 Radio Message
Date=19450103
Time=145
Categ=3
I remember passing the mission after photographing a second ship in Tokyo harbour, but I got sunk and reverted to the save where I had only photographed one, and the mission was not completed.
I sunk both Ise class battleships and my second Shokaku during this patrol, so command should be rather pleased.
Anyway, it is too late to revert back or sail back to Tokyo to complete the mission now. The only way to satisfy my inner OCD (never failed any mission before) is a - justified - savegame edit.

Best,
Brett

A recon of Tokyo Bay?

Perhaps you need to complete the Appendectomy Mission, as well?

Yeah, probably the hardest mission I had to date.
Sadly, I have an even worse problem now: Both my savegames crash the game on loading...

Best,
Brett

That's no good... Had you attempted any editing of those text-based files? The game does have a nasty habit of trashing Saves seemingly arbitrarily at times, even without any user input... Some of the files do keep track of the byte size of the files, and some have certain formatting and hold only certain data, and might have IDs pointing at certain other files - all of the info being interrelated. One mixed-up bit of data, and a Save can be ruined. Also, changing certain mods' status while not in port can trash the Saves, from the game not being compatible with the Save anymore. Hopefully, you don't have to go too far back in the Saves to continue your career...

I opened some of them, never edited any though.
Anyway, I managed to to solve my problem (see my other thread).

Best,
Brett

Regarding Photo Recons, some require photo's of 2 or 3 +/- ships.... just click away on different ships until the mission is completed.

I remember the Tokyo bay recon, basically stayed submerged running at 2 - 3 knots puddle jumping when necessary and recharging at night at the north end of the bay before attempting the recon.

After completing the recon and out of visual range of the DD(s) at the southern entrance to the bay, I surfaced and cleared the area glad it was over.

I think DGreyson (Florida Sailor) repaired the missions so they all worked and his mod should be in the Downloads. Nothing worse than attempting a broken Special Mission.

Happy Hunting!

Not exactly the same problem, but I've been noticing some odd glitches popping up as I progress further into my career.

Most recently, I just sank two passenger liners within about a minute of each other. I never got the "target destroyed" message, and there is no red marker on the map for the wreckage.

Bummer if I just don't get credit for those kills.

I've had that, check your ships sunk tab on that clipboard. I changed mine to say, "target destroyed" too.

As long as those passenger liners sunk beneath the surface you should get the tonnage. It's those targets in shallow water that can't sink because they're only partially submerged in 15' of water that don't get logged. That happens mostly to those who do harbor raiding.
