Default How into the game do you get at your desk?

I'm just curious how much your computer desk or playing area reflects how into the game you get while playing.

For example, my computer is in the spare bedroom that only gets used when my youngest daughter comes home from out of state for a holiday or if my granddaughter is spending the night. So the room is my U-boats command room most of the time. If I'm playing during the day the curtains are closed so I have better night vision through my periscopes. If I'm playing at night all lights are out except one small adjustable lamp that is very dim and gives off just enough soft indirect light so that I can see just enough to write notes if needed but not enough light to interfere with my night vision. And the ceiling fan is always running because I like things cool but also because a submarine needs ventilation....right?

On my computer desk I have a clipboard with an excel spreadsheet on it that I created to record the information I need when using the attack disk to find a targets true heading. I use this when things get hot and I'm doing too many things at once and it's easy for me to forget what the data was. I have another sheet of paper just for any random notes I may need such as the time of day that I begin an intercept run and how long the time to intercept is, things like this. I have my calculator for obvious reasons. I have my headphones because I play with no external camera so they help me to hear the direction and speed of the convoy escorts when they begin depth charge runs over my head and it's also easier to hear faint faraway hydrophone contacts.

I also always have something to drink by my side because dehydration is every skippers enemy!

Tell us how you set up when you get ready to go hunting.

Well, I do pretty much the same things you do, but I do them whether I'm playing or not.

My computer is in the living room of my apartment, and there is a double glass door to a balcony right next to my computer desk. The blinds are closed all the time in the summer or else I have trouble seeing the screen even for just typing. At night I write by the light of the computer screen. I keep a hand-written log of everything that happens, which I type up later.

I use headphones because I don't want to disturb my neighbors, and they give much better sound. I also always have something handy to drink, because I'm always thirsty.

I don't get to play much right now, but when I do I try to do it after dark or very early in the morning.

Default my U-Boat

My U-Boat is located in the basement. I usually play at night, in the dark with headphones. My keyboard is illuminated, which I love. I keep a small pocket flashlight close by so I can write down targeting data and info, make entrees into my (self designed Excel Worksheet) log book, and to see my calculator. As for the headphones, sometimes I use them and sometimes I don't, it all depends. It's about half the time. And now, last but not least, I'll either have a couple bottles of beer or a glass or three of Mead on my desk, and close by. Hey, captains get thirsty too

Like Papa Smurf, my uboat is in a spare bedroom, but like Doolar Semler I have mead to hand. Headphones are hung over my second screen (handy for reading subsim during long surface cruises) ready for hydrophone use. Blinds are up or down depending on time of day (and time of year, frankly: in summer it doesn't really get dark until very late).

Often, I'm doing vacuuming at the same time... courtesy of the iroomba called 'Igor'
