Game mods
I would like to create content in the SH world, but I'm not sure where to start.
I have a background in 3D modeling and can produce objects or vessels, so this is not a problem. I am a retired Naval Office and have 20 years of experience in Naval Ship engineering and can talk in great detail about warships, so knowing what to build is not a problem. My weakness is how to get a 3D model into SH4 or SH5. I've looked at the different files in the game and have searched the forums. There is lots of info out there but where to start? Are there conversion software programs that are required? Are there tutorials or even videos out there somewhere? My question is somewhat laborious but any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you |

I'd suggest you search the mods workshops of the forum and look for threads that are about model creation eg: new ships.

Thanks to all
I'm picking my way through the Data files in SH4. It is like drinking out of a fire hose but I'm determined "to get her done".

Welcome to Subsim barnzoomer. Great Introduction as well. It's always great to have someone with your background and experiences here. We are here to assist you if we can, Unfortunately, you are a bit more advanced than a lot of us with regards to 3D modeling. There are a great number of " modders " here who have a background with 3D modeling so they should be able to help and you will fit right in.
Enjoy your time here and Thank you for your service as well. |

Thank you for the nice note. I have always had a passion for freighters between the years of 1860 to 1945. Tramp steamers especially, once I figure out how things work as far as getting content into the game, I plan to start working on more merchant ships.
