At the beginning of the war I only keep two electric torps in tube 1 and 4. The rest are all steam. I never attack a convoy in day but if I have to, the first attack can be electric, by the time they hit, the steam torps are already on the way.

By 41' I keep more electric torps on my boat.

Otherwise, I haven't seen anything.

Cheers!

Assuming you are a skilled Kaleun and in your flotilla chief's good books, you may chose your loadout according to your preferences. Keep Atos in the deckcontainers and make the internals a 1/3 to 2/3 mixture of any kind you like.

Im interested in historical info, I have my way to load torpedo type.

I was looking for something like the limitation of 2 electrical at beginning of the war.

I'm not aware of any order like this for any year of the war. I doubt there was a general torpedo loadout order.

If enough liverwurst was available, they stored half a liverwurst for every crew member per sortie. If only bratwurst was available, they used it instead of liverwurst - and didn't refuse to leave port.

Kaleun Schickelhofer preferred liverwurst, Kaleun Buckelberg favoured bratwurst.

A late war loadout order looked like this:

http://www.uboatarchive.net/BDU/BDUOrder60.htm

Some of the 1941-1942 KTB's and shooting reports mention a load of G7e's and two G7a's.

Dönitz seemed to like his U-boats to get as close to the enemy as possible so I'd expect he would have had an interest on the types of the torpedoes used, preferring accuracy/sure destruction to long-range safety/inaccuracy.
