"Thanks to the info in this book and a quick trip to pep boys I had my good old constitution class running like she has just slid out of the dock at Utopia Planitia."

I guess the special innards of the Astute class's front dome are not being explained in detail. And the cover states it is "copyrighted material" so no ill-willed person will ever dare to copy it..

On topic:
The cort jet is good for effective power transfer, but it also increases cavitation already at lower speeds. The big 'brake' is of course the rudder
While the deterrence of the T-class units is still to be reckoned with, a real-time control of the GIUP gap and North sea will be impossible with so (relatively) few attack sub units.

Maybe build smaller/cheaper ones, or drone subs?

I actually spoke with the author of the Haynes "manual" on the Type 45 destroyer (coincidentally, the same author of the Astute manual) a couple years ago, and he said the MoD went over the final manuscript with a finetoothed comb before authorizing it for publication. So, I'm certain nothing in the final work is going to be a security issue.

I've obviously not spoken to the author but what you have posted above is obviously a given

I'm glad of that. Thanks for clearing that up. That's why I had said I didn't know how well detailed the information in the manual was. I was reasonably certain there were checks and balances in place to make sure there was no release of classified material. However, seeing a manual like that still makes me a bit uneasy.

Thanks for the info Subnuts and Jim .

Ironically, I had found the actual training manuals with specs on a few fighter aircraft some of which are current aircraft. I found them in a thrift store while killing a few minutes of time. They are in excellent condition too.
