Default STALKER Shadow of Chernobyl

Anybody here play any of the STALKER games? These have had my interest for a while but I never did seriously think about ordering one.

Shadow of Chernobyl seems like a good place to start.

What are your thoughts?

Buy them just go and spend you money now! - the stalker series is one of those classic games you'll keep coming back too ,(except possiblly clear sky i didn't rally like it as much as SOC or COP),I've had SOC on my machine since it was released and that 2 new systems and numerous reinstalls.

The thing that really makes the series different is it's not a western shooter ,it's eastern euro Ukrainian/Russian so you get a completely different vibe in the game than your used to in most shooters. The Zone itself is a truly creepy place the feeling of abandonment and desolation really comes through.

The spooky atmosphere that could have been there gets spoiled by to shallow and too insane shooting action. It's also not the open world one could expect when reading the advertisement, it is relatively small mission-based maps. I found the whole thing pretty much disappointing when I tried it out. It did not survive for long on my HD.

I think I might get SOC and see if I like it.

I like Post-Apocalyptic stuff and a shooter in Chernobyl sounds awesome. I've also been thinking about Metro 2033. It looks similar and it's about the same price.

Metro 2033 is definitely worth if you like the post apoc type games ,it's also got a great story to go with the game as well

@OP:
Grab all 3 of them, they are all good games. BUT. They were buggy as hell in their release states, constant ctd's, weird ai behaviour, grafix glitches, etc etc.
THIS is a must-have to any of the games. It fixes a lot of things mentioned above, they are currently in the midddle or releasing a newer version. A must-have!
The grafix engine was great back in the day but is showing its age. The mod overhauls a lot of the visual components of the game, amongst other things.
Metro 2033 i've played, but not for years. Got boring pretty quickly imo.

I heard that Stalker Clear Sky was bad and that the other two were the only ones worth playing.

I know my system can handle SOC but are the reqs the same for CoP?

Get the Stalker complete Mods for all 3 of them.

The Stalker series is quite good, and the Stalker Complete mods do a pretty good job of rounding them out with bug fixes and some gameplay fixes, mostly graphical though.

http://www.moddb.com/mods/stalker-complete-2009

There is also one that adds random blowouts to SHOC and makes the game a little closer to the original idea but can't remember the name.

I actually just watched that movie "Chernobyl Diaries" with a friend....

I thought about this game...

The movie was a total joke. The only character I liked was Yuri. The rest deserved what they got. I swear....these movies are modern-day natural selection.

I laughed through this movie and my friend hid behind his hand for the second half of the movie. *SPOILER ALERT* Gee, who would've thought that the Russians would use Chernobyl to create Zombies?

I really do not care. That movie was horrible.

Usually, I like to see how bad the movie is.

I wish they'd make a decent movie based around Chernobyl. It's a fascinating subject.

The book that it's all based on 'Roadside Picnic' by the Strugatsky Brothers is also a great read.

As for the games, never managed to get through Clear Sky but absolutely loved SoC and CoP.
