I'm a bit more technologically advanced:

Which reminds me, I need to put the Shark start-up and wep systems checklist on to the kindle.

Oberon,

would you mind to set up some pics of the display with manual pages displayed from DCS or other sims, some Din A4 pdf, and such? I would like to see that first-hand myself. I am considering a solid ebook reader myself since quite some time, for the mere purpose of displaying PDFs on it (no e-book buys planned, I prefer to actually own what I pay for), but I have skipped the idea time and again due to the small displays, or in case of tablets, the prices. (I also hate that batteries still cannot be exchanged once their lifetime has run out, so that I need to buy a new device).

I usually just use checklists rather than proper pictures, I just tried to send a copy of the Black Shark pdf across but it exceeded the 25meg limit on my hotmail account. Pictures are small, yes, but you can increase the size by zooming in, but then you have to scroll. So it can be a bit clunky and in that respect you're probably better off using the folder. But for a simple start-up checklist it's handy to have.
The kindle is actually my mothers, although it's in my name on Amazon, and for me it was handy to get for the book 'Chieftains' by Bob Forrest-Webb which, in used paperback form, you're lucky to get for less than 20 quid but on the kindle is just over three.

Thanks. Zooming and then panning around a PDF site, that is what keeps me away. And what I did not know is that you need to feed a Kindle via your emailbox - another argument against it (at least when wanting a reader for my purposes). I do not regret to not have payed money for something so far. It's just that I am willing to do if the price is right and the item meets my demands.

I had heard that DCS was nothing to sneeze at but what are those? Three inch binders?

Din A4, that is roughly the same like US letter format.

And yes, the matter included is essential, imo. It'S not just a super-complex description of how to install the game.

The manual for Falcon, various FSX modules also are like that. PMDG stuff goes beyond that. Sometimes by several factors. Operation manuals and/or transcipted tutorials for the various vehicles in SBP again fill 5 folders over here, though I printed them smaller to make them Din A5 (half the size of A4). But the DCS and PMDG manuals are the most comprehensive and complex I know of.

If you want to make your mouth watering, you can check the manuals yourself, they are free downloads:

Sounds like a good hobby to take up in the summertime.

Last summer I flew a whole lot with FS9 and IL-2 but I see now that DCS is like taking a class and doing it for real.
